Europa wägt Vorräte ab, Diesel treibt Inflation
Fortsetzung von heute Morgen.
The United States pressed Europe to release strategic diesel reserves after average diesel prices across the bloc reached €2.24 a litre, and Donald Trump kept open the threat of export restrictions on American diesel shipments. France proposed a coordinated drawdown of 50 million barrels of diesel by EU states and 50 million barrels of crude by International Energy Agency members, while Brussels warned that unilateral bans would damage trust across the Atlantic.
„A ban would not be beneficial to anyone. It would undermine our trust in the United States as a reliable partner.“

The fuel squeeze landed as Eurostat reported eurozone inflation at 3.8% in September, up from 3.2% in August and above forecasts. Energy prices rose 18.8% year on year, core inflation edged up to 2.5%, and markets priced another possible European Central Bank increase after two quarter-point rises had already lifted the benchmark rate to 2.50%. In the United States, September payrolls rose by only 29,000 and earlier months were revised down, easing expectations of an October Federal Reserve hike even as Treasury yields stayed high.
Governments can cap prices, tap tanks and jawbone traders, but expensive fuel now sits at the awkward intersection of war risk, inflation politics and household patience.
