Trump affronte le Congrès, la diplomatie du cessez-le-feu trébuche
Suite de l’édition d’hier soir.
The House voted 215 to 208 to direct President Donald Trump to end American involvement in hostilities against Iran, with four Republicans joining Democrats in the first successful congressional move to restrain the campaign since it began in late February. Donald Trump attacked the vote as unpatriotic and said it landed during final negotiations with Tehran, but the tally exposed a constitutional fight that will not vanish even if a veto kills the measure.

The Lebanon track looked no sturdier. Israel and Lebanon accepted a US-brokered ceasefire in Washington, but Israel's military continued strikes in Lebanon on Thursday, while Hezbollah rejected the deal and vowed to continue attacks as long as Israeli forces occupied Lebanese territory. Lebanon's health ministry reported deaths and injuries from strikes in the south and east, and Israel Katz said Israeli forces would stay in a self-declared security zone for now.
« Israeli forces would remain in the security zone, including the area of Beaufort castle, and without the return of the population. Israel will, for the time being, continue its fire and operations on the ground. »
The two files now pull against Donald Trump's claim that diplomacy is close to a payoff. Congress wants the Iran campaign bounded, Hezbollah refuses a deal it did not sign, Israel keeps operating on the ground, and Iran has tied Lebanon to its own talks with Washington. The danger is not simply that one agreement fails, but that every party learns Washington can announce a truce faster than it can make the armed actors obey it.
