Berlin beschuldigt Russland und schließt Bonner Konsulat

Neu

„The German government comes to the conclusion that Russia is responsible for the hybrid attack in Leipzig on Aug. 4.“

Alexander Dobrindt

Russland bombardiert Kiew, Europa sucht Abfangraketen

Neu

Russian forces launched another large overnight barrage against Ukraine, and Ukrainian officials said the attacks killed at least 12 people in Kyiv and the surrounding region. Ukrainian air defences reported intercepting or suppressing 199 of 218 drones and decoys, alongside interceptions of missiles in a raid that hit residential buildings, a railway depot and infrastructure. Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces struck military facilities, arms plants and fuel depots, while Ukrainian regional officials said civilian homes and services bore the heaviest cost.

The strikes also hit Ukraine’s export arteries. Russian drones damaged the Orlivka ferry checkpoint on the Danube, across from Romania, and forced a suspension of passenger and freight processing at a crossing that had absorbed more cargo after attacks on Black Sea routes. Romania issued alerts, Spanish F-18s on NATO air-policing duty scrambled, and pilots reported explosions on the Ukrainian side without detecting an aircraft crossing into Romanian airspace.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy tied the deaths to air-defence shortages.

„Russia always plans its attacks to cause as much destruction to people's lives as possible, and it succeeds when there is a lack of air defence capabilities.“

Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Ukraine also carried out drone strikes against Russian industrial and logistics targets, including the Baltic port of Ust-Luga and sites near oil refineries in Samara, as both sides widened pressure beyond front lines. EU ministers meeting in Ireland discussed sending interceptor missiles nearing expiry and developing more production with Kyiv. The war is becoming a contest of cheap drones against scarce interceptors, and Europe is discovering that sympathy does not shoot anything down.

Washington sichert sich Ölanteil in Venezuela nach Regimewechsel

Neu

The White House detailed an energy agreement that gives the Pentagon’s Office of Strategic Capital a 35% stake in the parent company of North American Blue Energy Partners, a private operator in Venezuela. The State Department also receives the right to buy 20% of output at production cost and a right of first refusal on the rest, under a deal covering 17 oilfields with an estimated 65 billion barrels of proven reserves. The lease runs for 100 years according to Washington, and the administration said some fields had previously been tied to Russian, Chinese or domestic operators.

NABEP already produces about 170,000 barrels a day and says it will invest $100 billion to lift output above 1 million barrels a day, with broader plans reaching 1.5 million. Donald Trump said crude is already moving to refineries in Texas and Louisiana, though he cautioned that petrol prices would not fall immediately.

  • Aktuelle Produktion170.000
  • Kurzfristiges Ziel1.000.000
  • Weiter gefasster Plan1.500.000

Caracas and Washington disagree over the contract’s duration. Acting President Delcy Rodriguez said the arrangement would generate $209 billion in domestic tax revenue and insisted that Venezuelan sovereignty over natural resources remains intact. Former PDVSA chief Rafael Ramirez rejected that view.

„An agreement concluded behind the country's back, manifestly unconstitutional, which cedes control of territory and oil to a foreign power.“

Rafael Ramirez

For the United States, the pact promises barrels, leverage and a foothold where rivals once held ground. For Venezuela, it offers cash and reconstruction, but at a political price that may outlast the wells.

Nepal beerdigt Flutopfer, Retter durchsuchen Tunnel

Fortsetzung von heute Morgen.

Nepalese authorities counted more than 1,000 recovered bodies after a glacial collapse on the Nepal-China border sent flash floods and debris through the Trishuli and Bhotekoshi valleys. Official figures put the missing in the thousands, and rescue teams evacuated more than 11,000 people as roads, settlements and river infrastructure buckled under mud and rock. Authorities began mass burials of unidentified victims after collecting DNA samples, a grim administrative task that often follows disasters before families receive answers.

The search narrowed around hydropower complexes, where hundreds of workers remain missing and many may be trapped in underground passages. Flooding damaged 12 power stations across Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts, affecting 670 megawatts of capacity, roughly 10% of Nepal’s electricity output. Army teams pumped air into tunnels extending up to 250 metres underground, while debris and collapsed entrances blocked direct access.

Bhim Gautam, a hydropower industry official, described the problem facing rescuers.

„Most facilities are buried under dust and stones, sometimes 30-40 meters underground. Inside, there may be no food, oxygen, or water left. We have no contact with them.“

Bhim Gautam

The flood has turned Nepal’s hydropower promise into a rescue map, exposing how much of the country’s development now sits in narrow valleys below unstable ice. A country that built its energy future on mountain water is now learning how quickly that water can collect its own toll.
