Seven firefighters injured in wildfires across Portugal's Guarda, Vila Verde, Penafiel and Mourão
Five civil protection agents were hurt in Guarda and two in Vila Verde, with hundreds of personnel still battling active fronts late Monday.
Seven firefighters were injured while battling wildfires in Portugal on Monday, according to the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC). Five suffered minor injuries in the Guarda fire, which started at 13:51 and still had two active fronts by 23:30. Two more were injured and one was assisted in the Vila Verde fire, which began at 11:53 and also had two active fronts, though substantial parts were already under control. In Penafiel, a fire that started at 11:09 had one active front late Monday, with significant portions dominated; several animals, including dogs and horses, were injured in Luzim. A fourth fire in Mourão, reported at 22:13, was consuming pine forest near the Alqueva dam. As of 0:10 Tuesday, a total of 794 personnel and 221 vehicles were deployed across the four incidents.
