Paléo Festival to run seven days for 50th edition in 2027, as 2026 edition hits 8 million total visitors
The Swiss festival will run from 19 to 25 July 2027, its first seven-day edition since 2015, as the 2026 event sold out with 250,000 visitors and crossed the 8 million all-time attendance mark.
50th edition extended to seven days
Paléo Festival will mark its half-century with an extra day, running from Monday 19 July to Sunday 25 July 2027. The announcement came during the closing press conference of the 49th edition on Sunday. Founder Daniel Rossellat said all programming options remain open: multiple artists retracing the festival's history or a single XXL star. He ruled out one name, however: Céline Dion will not appear. Further surprises for the anniversary will be unveiled in the autumn. The seven-day format is rare; the 40th edition in 2015 also began on a Monday, headlined by Robbie Williams, and a planned Monday start in 2020 with Dion was scrapped due to the pandemic and her illness.
2026 edition: a 'dream' year
The just-concluded 49th edition sold out all 250,000 tickets and enjoyed mild weather with no major incidents. Rossellat described the week as "a bubble of happiness in a somewhat anxious context." He noted a 50% rise in festival-goers arriving by bicycle and a "small embourgeoisement" of the camping area, with over 1,000 camper vans. The only setback was the suspension of the "Moon Music" project, in which artists performed suspended from a helium balloon. The Federal Office of Civil Aviation determined the aircraft lacked approval, and the festival faces a fine.

Milestones and records
On Friday, the festival welcomed its eight-millionth spectator since its founding in 1976. Rossellat joked about the milestone: "My dream is to surpass the Swiss population, and we're getting there quietly. We're not afraid of ten million!" The quip referenced a rejected Swiss People's Party initiative on population. The 2026 edition also set a new benchmark for gender representation: for the first time, women accounted for 55% of performers on Paléo stages.

Program highlights and firsts
Program director Jacques Monnier called the 2026 lineup a "dream edition." The standout was Katy Perry's Saturday night concert, which triggered unprecedented demand. On the morning of the show, 12,000 people queued online for the 1,500 daily tickets released by the festival. Monnier also praised "flawless concerts" by The Cure and Gorillaz, and highlighted Swiss artists, who made up nearly 20% of the program. Emerging acts such as Marie Jay, Nonante, and Roxane drew strong crowds, with Monnier predicting Roxane would return one day.

Leadership transition
Rossellat confirmed he will step down as president of the organizing committee after the 50th edition, following association elections in September 2027. He will remain president of the Paléo association, focusing on the festival's long-term direction. The 2027 anniversary will be his final edition at the operational helm.
