Legia Warszawa defeat Jagiellonia Białystok 3:1 to remain unbeaten in Ekstraklasa

Defensive errors hand Legia early lead

Jagiellonia Białystok hosted Legia Warszawa in matchday nine of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa before a crowd of more than 20,000 spectators at the municipal stadium. The home side entered the fixture without several regular starters, as defender Yuki Kobayashi and winger Ousmane Sow were absent, while team captain Taras Romanczuk was sidelined by an injury sustained during a 1:2 UEFA Europa League defeat against Olympiacos. Paweł Wszołek delivered a cross from the left flank following a corner kick, and Zoran Arsenić headed the ball toward Jan Kuchta. In the ensuing scramble, Jagiellonia forward Nik Prelec inadvertently deflected the ball past Abramowicz in the 20th minute to make it 0:2. Jagiellonia pushed forward to cut the deficit, though an initial appeal by Jesus Imaz for a foul by Bartosz Kapustka was dismissed in the 26th minute. The hosts earned a penalty when Prelec intercepted a loose pass inside Legia's penalty area and was brought down by Hindrich. Second-half pressure and overturned penalty

The match was halted in the 59th minute for several minutes after away supporters ignited flares that filled the stadium with smoke. Jagiellonia continued to search for an equalizer after play resumed, with Hindrich making a close-range save to deny Imaz in the 66th minute, followed by another blocked effort four minutes later. Legia increased their lead in the 75th minute after Augustyniak delivered a long throw-in into the penalty area. Arsenić directed the ball across the face of goal, where Wszołek tapped it in from close range, colliding with the post before resuming play. In the 80th minute, referee Karol Arys awarded Jagiellonia a second penalty after Jeremy Agbonifo went down under contact from Kapustka. Following an on-field video assistant referee review, Arys overturned the decision and rescinded the spot kick.

The 1:3 loss ended Jagiellonia's six-match unbeaten run in direct encounters against Legia Warszawa. The defeat was also the third consecutive loss in all competitions for Adrian Siemieniec's squad, leaving the Podlasie club in tenth position with one win from their last four league matches. Legia Warszawa, managed by Marek Papszun, maintained their position as the only undefeated team remaining in the Ekstraklasa after nine rounds. The victory moved the Warsaw side into second place in the league table on the eve of the international break, sitting three points behind league leaders Górnik Zabrze.
