Missed penalties at both ends
Stal Rzeszów lost 2:1 at home to Lechia Gdańsk in the 10th round of the Betclic 1. Liga on Monday, 12 October 2026, ending a run of five straight wins that Sportowe Fakty counted including the Polish Cup. Radio Gdańsk noted that Lechia returned from a three-week international break and still scored, helped by mistakes from the home side. Both teams had a penalty in the first half and both missed. Sean Goss, who took Stal's kick at 0:0, hit the post and the ball rebounded into play. About eight minutes later Tomasz Neugebauer went for Lechia, but his shot was struck high and hard yet too close to the middle, where goalkeeper Marek Kozioł made the save.
Two first-half goals
Lechia's first goal came after a poor Stal pass out from the right side. Artur Szach won the loose ball and found Vladislav Blanuta, who finished one-on-one; sources give the minute as 36, 37 or 38. Radio Gdańsk reported that Blanuta needed just over 100 minutes of play this season to score his first goal in the 1. Liga. Shortly after, a corner from Danyło Małow was headed in by defender Danyło Beskorowajnyj in the 40th or 41st minute, after Kozioł came off his line and did not reach the ball. Dziennik Bałtycki said the Stal defenders were passive on the play. Sportowe Fakty summed up the win as Lechia simply taking advantage of the opponent's mistakes. Stal went into the break 2:0 down.
Stal's pressure and a late consolation
Dziennik Bałtycki wrote that Lechia handed the initiative to its opponent after the break, while Stal did not give up the fight for at least a point. Stal's reward came in the 77th minute, when Sean Goss played a neat ball in a crowded area and substitute Aleksander Buksa finished. Buksa's goal was the only one of the second half and made the score 1:2. Lechia's goalkeeper Axel Holewiński had to make several saves in the closing stages, according to Dziennik Bałtycki. Narek Hovhannisyan made his Lechia debut in the final stretch, playing about 20 minutes, and according to Radio Gdańsk he made one run and one shot. Neither side scored again.
Table position and reaction
The win was Lechia's third straight victory in the Betclic 1. Liga, and Radio Gdańsk and Dziennik Bałtycki both reported that it moved the club up to fourth place. Stal coach Marek Zub, according to Sportowe Fakty, had reason to be unhappy with Goss, whose penalty at 0:0 hit the post. Lechia coach Władysław Łupaszka saw his side give up control after the break, Dziennik Bałtycki reported. Referee Pskit from Zgierz showed yellow cards to Buksa and Kaczor for Stal, and to Kopásek, Małow and Dodaj for Lechia. Sportowe Fakty reported that the Stal fans did not boo at the final whistle and applauded their players instead.
