Górnik Zabrze wins 3-1 at Jagiellonia and returns to top of Ekstraklasa
Jagiellonia, without suspended coach Adrian Siemieniec, lost their third straight league match on Saturday. Górnik scored three times in Białystok, while Jesus Imaz replied for the hosts.
A top-of-the-table visit to Białystok
Jagiellonia Białystok hosted Górnik Zabrze on Saturday, 10 October 2026, in round 10 of PKO BP Ekstraklasa, the first league fixture after the international break. The hosts were without head coach Adrian Siemieniec, who was serving a six-match suspension imposed by the League Commission for trying to contact referee Paweł Raczkowski about potential cautions for his players, an incident from the previous season. Assistant Mikołaj Łuczak took charge from the bench. Górnik entered the round as league leaders, while Jagiellonia sat 10th in the table, coming off a run of defeats that included a 1-2 loss to Olympiakos Pireus in the Europa League.
A goalless first half
Neither side could find the net before the break, although chances came at both ends. Philipp Schulze reacted with his foot to deny Ousmane Sow in the opening quarter of an hour, and Sławomir Abramowicz was just as busy later, keeping out two efforts from Paulo Bernardo near the end of the half. Close to the half-hour mark Jagiellonia dominated possession, and Jesus Imaz struck a first-time shot under the crossbar that Schulze stopped. Referee Wojciech Myć waved play on rather than award a penalty for contact between Rafał Janicki and Imaz inside the box.
Four goals after the break
Górnik came out with more purpose after the interval. Jarosław Kubicki finished from close range in the 51st minute, after a cross from Ondrej Zmrzly from the right created a scramble in the Jagiellonia box. Sondre Liseth doubled the lead from a few metres in the 58th or 59th minute, with sources giving slightly different times. Imaz pulled one back in the 67th minute, drilling a shot from a very tight angle that found the near post. A later Imaz strike was ruled out, though the reports differ on why: WP SportoweFakty says a VAR review found a foul by Anders Klynge on Malthe Hojholt, while Polsat Sport says the referee flagged offside. Kacper Urbański, who had come on from the bench, scored in the 90+13th minute to seal a 3-1 win.
- Jarosław Kubicki gives Górnik the lead
- Sondre Liseth makes it 2-0 for Górnik
- Jesus Imaz pulls one back for Jagiellonia
- Kacper Urbański scores the third Górnik goal
Table position and form
Górnik had gone six league matches unbeaten, five of them wins, and had won seven of their nine matches this season before the round. Their previous outing ended goalless against Motor Lublin. The victory was their third consecutive win over Jagiellonia and their second in Białystok this year, and it lifts them three points clear of Lech Poznań, who have played one match fewer. Jagiellonia's defeat was their fourth in a row across all competitions, following a 1-2 loss to Olympiakos, a 0-2 defeat to Wisła Kraków and a 1-3 loss to Legia Warsaw. Adrian Siemieniec's absence was the least of the club's problems, according to Dziennik Zachodni, which pointed to a side that has forgotten how to win.
Kubicki returns to Białystok
Jarosław Kubicki, 31, scored against his former club. He spent two seasons at Jagiellonia, winning the Polish championship and the Supercup there, before moving to Zabrze after the club did not extend his contract. Jagiellonia's next match is a Europa League league-phase game against FC Ararat-Armenia on Thursday, 15 October, with coverage from 20:50 on Polsat Sport 1, Polsat Sport Premium 1 and Polsat Box Go.
