PSG sign World Cup winner Ferran Torres from Barcelona for €50 million

Paris Saint-Germain announced the signing of Ferran Torres on Saturday 15 August, with the 26-year-old forward signing a five-year contract running until 2031. Torres traveled to Paris on Friday evening, passed his medical on Saturday morning, and was presented as PSG's new number 9. The transfer fee is reported at approximately €50 million, with Spanish outlet ABC reporting the deal also includes variable payments on top of the fixed sum, ending what the newspaper described as a prolonged negotiation between the two clubs. Barcelona confirmed the agreement in a statement thanking Torres for his dedication across four and a half seasons. LaVanguardia reports the deal frees approximately €20 million in salary space for the Catalan club.

World Cup hero arrives

Torres joins PSG on the back of the finest summer of his career, having scored the extra-time winner in the 2026 World Cup final against Argentina on 19 July in New York, a 1-0 victory that gave Spain their second World Cup title. He had already won his first international trophy with Spain at Euro 2024 in Germany, following the Nations League title in 2023 under Luis de la Fuente. For Spain, Torres has recorded 25 goals in 65 appearances. Franceinfo describes the forward as a versatile attacker capable of playing across all offensive positions, suited to the possession-based style favored by Luis Enrique.

Barcelona career in numbers

Torres arrived at Barcelona in December 2021 from Manchester City, where Pep Guardiola had signed him from Valencia for €33.5 million after two seasons in England. Torres had come through Valencia's academy before breaking into their first team. In four and a half seasons at the Camp Nou, Torres made 207 appearances, scoring 65 goals and providing 22 assists, placing him among the club's 50 all-time top scorers. He won seven titles with Barcelona: three LaLiga titles, one Copa del Rey, and three Spanish Super Cups. In the 2025-26 campaign, he shared the Trofeo Zarra with Lamine Yamal after scoring 16 goals in LaLiga. Last season, Torres recorded 21 goals and three assists in 49 appearances across all competitions as Barcelona retained their LaLiga title.

Reunion with Luis Enrique

At PSG, Torres will work under Luis Enrique, who gave him his senior Spain debut in a Nations League match against Germany in 2020 and later took him to Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The move reunites him with a PSG side that has won the last two Champions League titles and recently added the UEFA Super Cup by defeating Aston Villa, coached by Unai Emery. Torres is PSG's fourth summer signing, following the arrivals of France internationals Maghnes Akliouche and Lucas Digne, and young Italian goalkeeper Alessandro Longoni. He will compete for a place in a forward line that includes Dembélé, Kvaratskhelia, and Doué.
