Patras infant hospitalised with femur fracture and head injuries; mother arrested

Hospital admission

A 7-month-old infant was brought to Karamandaneio Children's Hospital in Patras on Saturday, 20 June 2026. Medical staff found a fractured femur and injuries to the head. The child remains under close observation.

Parents' account

The mother and father told doctors and police that the baby fell from a bed where he had been placed, between two pillows. According to their version, the mother had briefly left the room to prepare milk for another child when the fall occurred.

Medical assessment

Treating physicians assessed that the type and severity of the injuries were not compatible with an accidental fall. Hospital sources cited by local media said the combination of trauma raised serious indications of abuse. The hospital therefore immediately informed the Patras security police, following the standard protocol for possible domestic violence and child abuse.

Investigation and arrest

A prosecutor ordered the mother's arrest on a charge of child endangerment. Law enforcement is examining all circumstances under which the injuries were sustained. A forensic medical examination of the infant has also been ordered to determine the exact causes.
