Miley Cyrus released her tenth studio album, Bass Persuades, on 18 September 2026. The release arrived three weeks after the death of Cyrus's godmother, country music icon Dolly Parton, who died on 25 August 2026 in Nashville at the age of 80 following a brief battle with cancer. Parton became Cyrus's godmother in 1992 after forming a friendship with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus. Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music on 17 September 2026, the singer stated that her final conversation with Parton focused on Bass Persuades. Cyrus explained that Parton was always the first person to receive a newly pressed vinyl record of her work.

“I'm just trying to keep myself together, but the time that we talked, which was the last time we would talk, it was actually me telling her about this record, because even though we are so different, that is what made us so perfect for each other.”

Cyrus credited Parton with helping her manage the boundary between public celebrity and private life, reflecting on her five years starring in Disney Channel's Hannah Montana from 2006 to 2011. On that television series, Parton played Aunt Dolly, and the two later recorded a duet version of Cyrus's song "Wrecking Ball" for Parton's 2023 album Rockstar. In an official statement on Instagram, Cyrus described the record as a reflection of her two decades in the entertainment industry and the peace found after slowing down her routine. To support the release, Cyrus will stage two concerts at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on 16 October and 18 October 2026, with opening performances by Model/Actriz.
