Polls opened at 08:00 on Sunday across Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for the election of the ninth Landtag in Schwerin, with balloting scheduled to run until 18:00. Early polling placed the AfD with a lead before the SPD reduced the margin in subsequent weeks. In an Infratest dimap survey conducted for ARD on 10 September, the AfD recorded 38% against 33% for the SPD. Die Linke scored 9%, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) polled at 7%, the Greens stood at 5%, and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) sat below the threshold at 4%. The SPD subsequently pulled ahead in the final pre-election poll.
