Bose announces QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) at $359 with Ultra features trickling down
Bose's second-generation QuietComfort Headphones bring Immersive Audio, USB-C lossless playback, and glasses-friendly ANC to the midrange line at $359, with preorders opening August 8 and shipping on August 13.
Announcement and pricing
Bose announced the QuietComfort Headphones (2nd Gen) on August 6, 2026, the first hardware update to the entry-level QuietComfort line in three years. The original model debuted at $349 in late 2023, itself an update on the QuietComfort 35 II initially released in 2017. The second-generation version carries a $359 price tag in the US and £299 in the UK, a $10 increase over the first-gen US price but a reduction from the original £349.95 in the UK. Preorders open on August 8 through Bose's online store and other retailers, with shipping expected to begin on August 13. The QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen), released approximately 10 months ago, are currently discounted to $399. The first-generation QuietComfort headphones are also likely to receive a discount once the new model reaches the market.

Features carried over from the Ultra line
The second-generation QuietComfort inherit several features previously exclusive to the pricier Ultra model. Bose's Immersive Audio, powered by TrueSpatial technology, offers three modes: Still, Motion, and Cinema. Still mode uses side-to-side head tracking to make audio appear to come from a fixed location in a room, while Motion mode keeps the sweet spot moving with the listener on the go. Cinema Mode spatializes and balances sounds to keep dialogue clear and centered during video playback or podcast listening. The headphones also support Bluetooth 5.4 with multipoint connectivity, allowing pairing and switching between multiple sources. Bose has added ActiveSense, which automatically increases noise canceling when sudden loud noises are detected.
USB-C audio and battery life
The new model introduces two-way USB-C audio, enabling wired lossless playback at 24-bit/48kHz resolution while simultaneously charging the device. A 3.5mm jack is retained for analog connections such as CD players and airplane infotainment systems, though the previous 2.5mm-to-3.5mm cable has been dropped. Battery life is rated at up to 24 hours with ANC on, unchanged from the first generation, dropping to 18 hours when Immersive Audio features are enabled. A 15-minute quick charge provides 2.5 hours of playback, and the headphones can be used while charging over USB-C. For comparison, the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) deliver 30 hours with ANC on.

Noise cancellation improvements
Bose upgraded the active noise cancellation with a six-microphone system that compensates for gaps in the ear cup seal, a specific benefit for glasses wearers. An adaptive feedforward control helps maintain ideal ANC levels despite the imperfect fit caused by glasses arms. The upgraded Aware mode responds more naturally to sudden spikes in noise, such as a passing vehicle, making transitions smoother and less jarring. The ANC can also be turned off entirely, a new option for this model. Voice isolation has been improved, and call quality has been enhanced, addressing a common complaint with the previous iteration. Bose also claims improved overall sound quality with its TrueSpatial technology for a more immersive listening experience.
Design changes
The hardware has been redesigned with oval-shaped earcups, a sliding headband with adjustable sliders, and more plush cushioning. The clamping force has been adjusted for a tighter seal. Controls remain physical buttons rather than touch controls, with improved button placement for more intuitive operation. Color options include standard black and white smoke, plus three limited-edition colors: eucalyptus green, dewdrop mint, and rosewood mauve.
