West Ham recover two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 at Millwall in Championship derby
Konstantinos Mavropanos and Mohamadou Kanté scored second-half goals to earn West Ham a 2-2 draw at The Den before Kanté received a late red card.
Millwall take first-half lead at The Den
West Ham United fought back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw against Millwall at The Den on Saturday in the eighth round of the Championship. The match was the first competitive fixture between the two London rivals since February 2012. In response to past violence between the clubs, the Metropolitan Police deployed 400 officers to form a security perimeter around sections of the city, with authorities reporting no immediate crowd disorder. On the pitch, Millwall exerted pressure from the opening whistle, with midfielder Jenson Metcalfe tackling West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen after 15 seconds. The home side opened the scoring in the 16th minute after a long throw-in by Lyndon Dykes created confusion inside the penalty area while West Ham defender Konstantinos Mavropanos was off the pitch receiving medical treatment. West Ham mount second-half comeback
West Ham manager Nuno Espírito Santo made multiple adjustments during the half-time interval, sending on Mohamadou Kanté, Portuguese forward Pablo Felipe, and Edvin Austbø for Joël Piroe, Kyle Walker-Peters, and Divine Mukasa. The changes altered the momentum of the contest. In the 52nd minute, Bowen produced an effort that Millwall goalkeeper Filip Marschall, making his Championship debut, spilled before recovering. Marschall then tipped a header from Pablo Felipe around the post for a corner. West Ham broke through in the 74th minute when Kanté received a pass from Pablo Felipe and sent a low strike from outside the penalty area into the bottom corner. Six minutes later, in the 80th minute, Mavropanos leveled the score at 2-2 by heading home a corner kick delivered by Manor Solomon.

Late red card and Championship standings
The final minutes produced opportunities for both teams before West Ham were reduced to 10 players. Kanté received a straight red card from referee Paul Tierney in the closing moments after committing a foul on Millwall substitute Kyrell Lisbie, who had broken clear toward goal. Millwall pushed for a winner during stoppage time, but Dykes missed a late chance inside the box before Tierney sounded the final whistle. The draw preserves West Ham's position at the top of the Championship table with 15 points from eight matches, though potential victories by Swansea, Middlesbrough, or West Bromwich Albion could alter the standings. Alex Neil's Millwall side remain four points behind their rivals, occupying between 10th and 11th place in the table. The result prevented West Ham from recording a fifth consecutive league victory and extended Millwall's wait for a win in the derby fixture to nearly 22 years.
