Volvo debuts electric EX60 with 510 hp and 800-volt charging during Polish test drives
Volvo has conducted initial road tests of the electric EX60 P10 AWD in southern Poland, featuring an 800-volt architecture, 660 km range, and software from its Kraków Tech Hub.
Polish road debut and software roots
Volvo conducted the first driving tests of the all-electric EX60 in southern Poland, routing the SUV from Kraków through Nowy Sącz into the mountain terrain of Krynica-Zdrój and the Beskid Sądecki. The manufacturer selected Kraków for the vehicle presentation because of Volvo Tech Hub Poland, a development center opened in 2023 where several hundred engineers create driver assistance algorithms, connectivity systems, and safety software integrated into the EX60. During initial dynamic testing on hilly and mountain routes across Małopolska and Podhale, the vehicle registered an average energy consumption of around 18 kWh per 100 km.
Powertrain performance and 800-volt charging
The tested EX60 P10 AWD features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system generating 510 hp and 710 Nm of torque, which accelerates the vehicle from zero to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. The drivetrain combines a permanent magnet electric motor on the rear axle for continuous drive with an asynchronous motor on the front axle. A 95 kWh battery delivers a manufacturer-declared range of 660 km under the WLTP cycle.

The model uses an 800-volt electrical architecture capable of direct-current fast charging at power levels up to 400 kW. This system replenishes the battery from 10% to 80% capacity in 18 to 19 minutes, while a 10-minute charging stop adds up to 340 km of driving range. Charging efficiency is supported by Breathe Charge software, which applies dynamic algorithms to shorten charging duration by an additional 15% without reducing battery cell longevity. Hardware inclusions comprise a built-in DC/DC converter for legacy 400-volt charging stations, bidirectional vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-grid capability, a digital battery passport with QR code verification, and a battery warranty extending to 10 years or 240,000 km when serviced through authorized dealerships.
SPA3 architecture and megacasting production
The EX60 serves as the launch vehicle for the SPA3 architecture, moving away from conventional battery packs to a cell-to-body design where the battery cells function as a structural floor component. This engineering approach reduces structural mass by 70 kg and increases energy density by 20% compared to the older SPA2 platform.

At the Torslanda production facility, Volvo introduced megacasting technology to produce the rear floor structure as a single aluminum casting made with 50% recycled aluminum, replacing hundreds of individual welded components. The manufacturing modification reduces the vehicle total carbon footprint by 37% to 16 tonnes of CO2, a lifecycle total on par with the compact EX30.
Market positioning and XC60 coexistence
The electric SUV is designed as a volume seller tasked with financing the brand's ongoing transition, positioning it differently from the flagship EX90. It succeeds the XC60, which accumulated more than 2.7 million sales over its production run to surpass the Volvo 240 as the best-selling model in company history. In 2025, the XC60 remained the brand's top-selling vehicle with over 230,600 deliveries. Rather than immediately phasing out the combustion-and-hybrid XC60, Volvo will sell both vehicles concurrently as fleet electrification continues.
