Austrian court rejects privacy lawsuit against Disney by Taylor Swift concert plotter
A Vienna judge has dismissed a privacy claim against Disney brought by Beran A., who was sentenced to 15 years in prison for planning a 2024 attack on a Taylor Swift concert, over footage of his family home.

A Vienna court dismissed a privacy lawsuit on 30 September 2026 brought by convicted terrorism plotter Beran A. against The Walt Disney Company. The 21-year-old Austrian national claimed that the Disney+ docuseries "Taylor Swift: The End of an Era" infringed on his personal privacy rights by broadcasting footage of his parents' home. The exterior and address appeared on screen for a matter of seconds during the six-episode series, which debuted on the streaming platform in December 2025. Judge Nicole Baczak rejected the damages claim, finding that a home address does not warrant the highest tier of legal protection under Austrian law. The court also observed that the documentary never identified Beran A. by name in the sequence.

Legal arguments and settlements
Beran A.'s attorney, Ulrike Zeller, argued in court that broadcasting the family residence to an audience of millions of subscribers compromised her client's safety and personal rights. In defense of the media company, Disney's attorney Georg Kresbach told the court that the contested scene had already been removed from the platform in May 2026, shortly after receiving the formal complaint. Kresbach also disclosed that Beran A.'s parents, who still reside at the address, had each accepted an indemnity payment of 3,000 euros (approximately $3,400) under a separate settlement agreement. Judge Baczak concluded that the plaintiff had demonstrated no concrete endangerment to his legal rights. Following the decision, Beran A.'s legal team announced plans to appeal the verdict.
The 2024 concert plot and convictions
The legal dispute follows the disruption of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in Austria in August 2024. Austrian law enforcement uncovered an active conspiracy targeting Swift's three scheduled performances at Vienna's Ernst Happel Stadium, leading to the cancellation of all three concerts. Investigators determined that Beran A., an Austrian citizen of North Macedonian heritage, had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, obtained bomb-making instructions from the terrorist group, and attempted to acquire illegal firearms. The planned assault involved homemade explosives and knives intended for use against concertgoers outside the venue. In May 2026, an Austrian court sentenced Beran A. to 15 years in prison on multiple terrorism charges. A separate trial in Germany resulted in a suspended sentence of probation for a teenage Syrian national, identified as Mohammed A., for his involvement in the plot.
