Notices posted on myCAR

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has posted the 2027 vehicle tax payment notices on its myCAR platform, and reports on the posting appeared on Monday, 2 November 2026. Millions of vehicle owners are being asked to settle the tax before the end of the year. The payment deadline is Thursday, 31 December 2026, and the current framework provides no automatic extension. Owners can open the notice to see the exact amount due for their car or motorcycle and then save or print the payment form.

How owners retrieve the notice

Owners sign in to myCAR with their Taxisnet codes, open the vehicle tax section and select the year 2027. The form can then be saved to a computer or phone or printed. Owners without Taxisnet codes can use a separate AADE service instead. There they enter the tax registration number (AFM) shown on the vehicle licence, the vehicle's registration number and the year 2027, then choose print to obtain the payment form.

Payment options and late fines

The fee can be paid electronically or in person. Through e-banking or mobile banking, owners enter the RF payment code printed on the notice. Some bank apps accept a QR code scan. ATMs take the payment details printed on the form, while bank branches and ELTA post offices accept the printed notice itself. Owners are advised to keep the proof of payment until the electronic record of the debt is updated.

Fines rise in steps depending on when the fee is paid. A payment in January 2027 carries a fine of 25% of the fee, a payment in February 2027 carries 50%, and a payment from 1 March 2027 onward carries 100%. The minimum fine is 30 euros whatever the size of the fee. According to AADE, the fine is halved for public-use passenger vehicles, trucks and buses.

Worked examples

For a vehicle with a 240-euro fee, the total due would be 300 euros for a payment between 1 and 31 January 2027, 360 euros for a payment in February and 480 euros from 1 March. A separate example uses a 300-euro fee, where a January payment adds a 75-euro fine for a total of 375 euros, and a payment from 1 March adds a 300-euro fine for a total of 600 euros. The reports point out that a delay until March can double the original amount owed.

Digital immobilization and exemptions

Owners can place a vehicle in digital immobilization through myCAR by filing its plates digitally, without visiting their tax office. According to the reports, a declaration completed by 31 December 2026 releases owners from the obligation to pay the 2027 fee. A vehicle can be taken out of immobilization only once a year, and when the paid period ends it must be returned to immobilization or the owner faces heavy fines. Where a vehicle has co-owners, all of them must agree to lift the immobilization, and they are notified through their personalised information or by e-mail if one is registered. The same platform also offers a non-debt certificate and applications for disability-related exemption from the fee.
