Second half turnaround

The reigning Pro League champions seized control after the restart. In the 50th minute, Tresoldi fired Club Brugge ahead after good work from Forbs. The home side continued to dominate and pushed for a second, but Union remained in contention. The equaliser arrived when a costly error by Vermant, who lost possession on the edge of his own area, allowed Mac Allister to drive forward and finish past the goalkeeper in the 77th minute. With no further goals, the contest went straight to penalties.

Penalty shootout

Neither side faltered during the shootout until Tsawa stepped up for Club Brugge and saw his effort miss the target. That single miss proved decisive as Union converted all their attempts to win the shootout 4-3 and lift the trophy.

Familiar rivals

Friday's fixture marked the third consecutive season that Club Brugge and Union Saint-Gilloise have contested the Super Cup, the traditional curtain-raiser of the professional Belgian football season. Club Brugge, the most successful side in the competition's history with 18 titles, had won the 2025 edition 2-1, avenging a 2-1 defeat to Union in the 2024 meeting.
