Crash on DN 7 near Lazaret

In the night of 29 to 30 October 2026, a car collided with a truck combination on DN 7, the road linking Sibiu and Râmnicu Vâlcea, near the village of Lazaret in Sibiu county. Police said the 50-year-old woman driving the car, who lives in Vâlcea county, drove into the opposite lane at kilometre 240+900 for reasons that still have to be established. Her car struck a truck combination driven by a 30-year-old man from Bucharest. The impact threw her car into a second vehicle that was travelling in the same direction.

The 50-year-old driver and a 72-year-old woman passenger, both from Vâlcea county, died at the scene. A 21-year-old man from Vâlcea county was injured and taken by ambulance to the emergency department in Sibiu, conscious at the time of transfer. ISU Sibiu put the number of people involved in the collision at eight.

Rescue and emergency response

The emergency call reached rescuers around 01:00 on 30 October. Two SMURD crews, three SAJ ambulances, one of them with a doctor, and extrication and firefighting vehicles from ISU Sibiu were sent to the scene. Crews from ISU Vâlcea joined them with an SMURD ambulance and two more appliances. Authorities activated the Red Plan of intervention, which was deactivated at 01:30.

When rescuers arrived, both women were found in cardiorespiratory arrest, and one of them was trapped in the wreckage. Resuscitation attempts did not succeed, and a doctor declared both women dead at the scene. Police continued their work at the site after the emergency services had cleared it.

Second crash near Brezoi

Around 07:30 on 30 October, a second crash occurred on DN 7 at kilometre 208+900, near Goloțreni, on the stretch between Brezoi and Goloțreni in Vâlcea county. Two truck combinations and a car were involved. The regional roads directorate DRDP Craiova said the driver of one truck combination might be trapped inside his cab. ISU Vâlcea later reported that a conscious trapped person had been freed by firefighters and handed to an SAJ ambulance crew. Traffic on the Valea Oltului road through Brezoi was blocked, and representatives of the national roads section were heading to the scene to secure the area.

According to information from Vâlcea county police, relayed by local media, two people were injured in this second collision.

Outcome and investigation

Of the eight people involved in the Lazaret crash, two died and one was injured. The other five people got out of the vehicles on their own and refused transport to hospital. Police from Sibiu are still working to establish all the circumstances of the crash, including why the driver entered the opposite lane. The sources do not report a cause for the Brezoi collision.
