Morning detonations across central districts

The first blast struck in the Nordend district outside the Rio açai café on Berger Straße. Minutes later, a second explosion occurred on the Zeil shopping street in the city centre, detonating directly in front of the Truth Lounge shisha bar near the municipal citizens' office (Bürgeramt). Multiple local residents contacted emergency dispatchers after hearing the two detonations in rapid succession. The shockwave outside the açai café blew out the establishment's storefront windows, scattered glass across the road, and shattered a shop window on the opposite side of the street. Police closed Berger Straße entirely to secure the scene, which generated long traffic jams during the morning commute.

Arrest on Berger Straße and emergency operations

Police officers detained a suspect in the immediate vicinity of the crime scene on Berger Straße shortly after the morning detonations took place. Law enforcement confirmed that neither detonation resulted in casualties, though both targeted commercial properties sustained heavy structural damage. On the Zeil, the blast damaged the facade of the Truth Lounge, a venue that opened in September 2025, and also damaged a neighbouring kiosk. Large police contingents and forensic teams cordoned off both locations to recover physical evidence and examine explosive remnants. A police spokeswoman stated that officers deployed extensively to manage the scene and advance the investigation.

The Thursday morning attacks mark the third separate night of explosions in the Frankfurt metropolitan area over five days. On Sunday, two near-simultaneous detonations struck a bar in the neighbouring city of Offenbach and the entrance of a kiosk in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen. Following the Sachsenhausen incident, police detained a 15-year-old suspect. On Monday, another explosive device went off outside a residential building in Frankfurt's Bockenheim district. None of the five explosions across Sunday, Monday, and Thursday resulted in physical injuries, though all five incidents caused extensive property destruction.

Targeted establishments and ongoing investigations

Local residents reported that the Rio café on Berger Straße had opened during the summer and had quickly become a popular venue with long waiting queues. Official business registry records for the café list the placeholder name Max Mustermann, leaving the venue's ultimate ownership unclear. Police authorities have not released details regarding the identity, age, or background of the individual arrested on Berger Straße on Thursday morning. Investigators from the criminal police continue to process forensic evidence at the two sites on Berger Straße and the Zeil while assessing links between Thursday's blasts and the previous attacks in Bockenheim, Sachsenhausen, and Offenbach.
