What the video shows
A group of teenagers surrounded a boy outside a secondary school in Frankfurt (Oder) on the afternoon of Wednesday, 14 October 2026, according to police and press reports. Footage shows one of them punching him in the face, followed by further blows and kicks from at least five of them, including to his head. The attack went on after the boy fell to the ground, and the Märkische Oderzeitung puts its total length at about 30 seconds. It took place in front of the Heinrich-von-Kleist-Oberschule on Görlitzer Straße, and a second video filmed from further away shows the boy had come from the school grounds beforehand. Police consider the footage authentic and have secured it as evidence. The boy reported the attack at a police station the same day, and police said he had facial injuries.
Ten suspects under investigation
Police are investigating ten children and teenagers aged 13 to 15 on suspicion of dangerous bodily injury and robbery. According to police, the suspects hold German, Polish, Russian or Syrian citizenship. Police have not yet said what role each one played, and they gave no details on the robbery allegation. Investigators are also working through tips from the public alongside the video. Children under 14 are not criminally liable in Germany, although police can still examine their possible involvement.
Schools and the response
Principal Sören Schunke told the Märkische Oderzeitung that at least the people who attacked the boy are not pupils of the Kleist school, and the city has said the suspects do not come from it. Whether they attend the neighbouring Ulrich-von-Hutten-Oberschule is unclear, and that school had not commented when asked. On Thursday, 15 October, police searched seven teenagers who were leaning against the wall of the Hutten school building and questioned them, the local paper reported, and the operation is reportedly linked to the attack. Local police confirmed that a secondary school pupil had filed a complaint for bodily injury on Wednesday. Brandenburg's social minister René Wilke has threatened consequences and described himself as shaken in an Instagram post. Frankfurt mayor Axel Strasser, who has no party affiliation, said he was shocked in an Instagram video posted on Thursday evening, 15 October.
Next steps
Police plan security talks with the city, the school authority and what they call further partners. Police said the meeting will focus on the situation and on cooperation between the agencies involved.
“The security talks will focus on the current situation, concrete options for action and the continued cooperation of the bodies involved.”
Investigators continue to examine the video, the public tips and the individual roles of the suspects. Police have not said when the talks will take place.
