TVE plans 70th anniversary news specials reuniting veteran Spanish anchors
Spanish public broadcaster TVE will mark 70 years of broadcasts with special news editions featuring returning anchors from rival networks and an on-location broadcast from Robledillo de la Jara.
Special editions across the schedule
Televisión Española will commemorate the 70th anniversary of its first television broadcast, which took place on 28 October 1956, through a series of special broadcasts organized by its news division. The commemorative schedule begins on Saturday, 10 October 2026, when current affairs programme 'Informe Semanal' broadcasts a dedicated edition hosted by former presenter Mari Carmen García Vela. The schedule will feature two specialized editions of the daily news programme Telediario. Network retrospectives will also draw on archival material spanning seven decades.
- 'Informe Semanal' airs special edition hosted by Mari Carmen García Vela
- Telediario 1 broadcasts '70 años juntos' live from Robledillo de la Jara
- Telediario 2 airs 'El Telediario de nuestras vidas' from Torrespaña
- TVE marks 70 years since commencing broadcasts in 1956
Newsroom reunion at Torrespaña
On 19 October 2026, the evening news programme Telediario 2 will air a 45-minute special broadcast titled 'El Telediario de nuestras vidas'. The programme is conceived and directed by Carlos del Amor, with Antonio Casado directing the broadcast and Pepa Bueno anchoring from the Torrespaña studios in Madrid. The special will bring back prominent news anchors from across Spanish television history to present segments covering key events from the past seventy years. Commercial networks Atresmedia and Mediaset agreed to allow current on-air talent, including Antena 3 presenter Matías Prats and Telecinco anchor Carlos Franganillo, who departed TVE in late 2023, to return to the public network's studio for the broadcast. They will join veteran broadcasters Iñaki Gabilondo, Pedro Piqueras, Olga Viza, Manuel Campo Vidal, Ana Blanco, María Escario, and Lorenzo Milá. Former weather presenter Paco Montesdeoca will also participate alongside current weather chief Mónica López.
Live broadcast from Robledillo de la Jara
The morning news edition, Telediario 1, will depart from its Madrid studio on 15 October 2026 to broadcast entirely live from Robledillo de la Jara. The municipality, located in the Sierra Norte region approximately one hour from Madrid, has 80 registered residents and holds a historical connection to the network. During the late 1950s, the TVE programme 'Destino TV' delivered the village's first television set, prompting the local council to name its central square 'Plaza de Televisión Española'. Presenter Alejandra Herranz will host the special edition, titled '70 años juntos', directly from the town square with local residents present as the studio audience. Both the sports and weather segments will broadcast on site, incorporating demonstrations of early meteorological presentation methods used during the early years of Spanish television.
Archival retrospectives and musical performances
The special broadcasts will feature musical contributions from the RTVE Orchestra and Chorus, who will perform vintage theme tunes and station identifiers from across the network's history. RTVE will also draw on its historical archive to showcase early news footage alongside classic drama and entertainment productions. These archive packages will include clips from theatrical anthology series 'Estudio 1' and narrative series such as 'Verano Azul' and 'Cañas y Barro'. The retrospective programming will conclude ahead of the official 70-year milestone on 28 October 2026.
