Torreense faces Lillestrøm in Norway for opening Europa League fixture

Torreense travels nearly 3,400 kilometres from Torres Vedras to face Norwegian club Lillestrøm at Åråsen Stadion on Thursday, 17 September 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 20:00 Western European Time in the opening fixture of the UEFA Europa League single league phase. The Portuguese second-tier club earned direct qualification for the competition by winning the Taça de Portugal last season, defeating Sporting CP 2-1 after extra time at Jamor. Lillestrøm, based outside Oslo and managed by Hans Erik Ødegaard, enters the match marking its return to UEFA European competitions after an absence of 26 seasons. The match represents the first competitive international fixture in Torreense's history.

Squad adjustments and organizational growth

Head coach Luís Tralhão leads a Torreense side that expanded its operational and medical infrastructure to handle concurrent domestic and continental commitments. The club invested in additional performance department personnel to assist players with physical conditioning and recovery. General director André Sabino explained that the expanded calendar also required a larger playing squad to supply adequate depth.

The first thing we did was strengthen the staff, securing more people in the performance department capable of helping the players with recovery and physical performance. It was an investment we decided to make from the very first hour.

Sabino added that the team views the fixture as an opportunity to represent their town on a broader stage.

It is above all a feeling of enormous pride. Logically, not even in our best dreams did we think we would be at this level, because how many first division teams have the opportunity to do so? We are privileged right now.

Starting lineups and continental experience

Luís Tralhão names Adriel Ramos in goal, behind a defensive line composed of David Bruno, Mohamed Diadié, Volnei Feltes, and Javi Vázquez. The midfield comprises Amine Oudrhiri, Alejandro Alfaro, and Manuel Pozo, while João Marques, Dany Jean, and Malik Abubakari lead the attack. Lillestrøm starts Pontus Dahlberg in goal, supported by Lars Ranger, Sander Foss, Ruben Gabrielsen, Frederik Elkaer, Ylldren Ibrahimaj, Filip Ottosson, Gustav Nyheim, Yaw Paintsil, Fredrik Gulbrandsen, and Felix Vá. Within the Torreense squad, only three players possess prior experience in European club tournaments. Forward Malik Abubakari made 15 appearances across stints with Viborg, Slovan Bratislava, HJK, and Malmö, defender Stopira played eight matches with Videoton, and João Marques recorded one appearance with Braga.

Supporter travel and upcoming league phase fixtures

Around 100 supporters travelled to Norway to attend the match at Åråsen Stadion. Torreense organized a fan travel package covering commercial flights, transfers, accommodation, meals, and match tickets. Supporters making the journey include comedian Vasco Elvas, who fulfilled a pledge made during the cup run, and former Sporting midfielder André Santos. Torreense recently reached 10,000 registered club members and established a target to reach 20,000 members following the cup victory. Because the Estádio Manuel Marques does not meet UEFA stadium regulations, Torreense will host all four home fixtures at the Estádio Municipal de Leiria, beginning with an encounter against Sunderland on 15 October, while their schedule also includes an away match against Real Sociedad in San Sebastián.
