
Syros wildfire forces evacuation of Tria Langonia via 112 alert
A wildfire in Ampela, Syros, prompted the evacuation of the Tria Langonia settlement on Sunday, as emergency services battled the blaze with ground and air units.
Wildfire breaks out on Syros
On Sunday midday (21 June), a wildfire ignited in the Ampela area of Syros, a Greek island in the Cyclades. The fire is burning dry grass and low vegetation. Strong winds in the region are making containment difficult. Emergency services were immediately notified.

Evacuation of Tria Langonia
Initially, a warning message of increased readiness was sent via the 112 emergency system to residents in the wider area. As the fire front moved towards Tria Langonia, the alert was upgraded to an evacuation order just before 14:00. The message read:
Fire in your area. If you are in the Tria Langonia area of Syros, evacuate towards Ermoupolis. Follow the instructions of the authorities.
Firefighting efforts
A total of 10 firefighters with three vehicles are on the ground, supported by two firefighting aircraft and two helicopters. Volunteers and municipal water tankers (OTA) are also assisting. The operation is focused on preventing the fire from spreading further, hampered by the winds.
