The fire
A forest fire broke out around midday on Monday, 19 October, in a wooded area at Faneromeni in Thesprotia, Greece. The Fire Service was informed at about 14:10. Several Greek outlets reported the blaze while it was still under way, and the sources published around midday did not give its final size.
Firefighting response
Firefighters were deployed on the ground and from the air. A total of 26 firefighters, including two groups of foot units from the 5th EMODE, moved in with seven vehicles. Four firefighting aircraft were mobilised to support the effort from above. The Municipality of Filiates was asked to help with water tankers.
