Fire strikes paint warehouse in Sutești as firefighters deploy ten vehicles
Firefighters in Vâlcea County contained a warehouse fire involving paints and thinners in Sutești on 3 October 2026, issuing two RO-Alert smoke warnings.
Outbreak at Sutești paint warehouse
A fire broke out on Saturday evening, 3 October 2026, at an industrial warehouse located in the commune of Sutești, situated in Romania's Vâlcea County. The facility, belonging to a local commercial operator, held stocks of paint and solvent thinners inside the storage hall. The combustible chemical inventory created immediate fire hazards as flames spread within the facility. Emergency services were alerted to the blaze in the late afternoon, prompting the dispatch of military firefighters from regional stations to contain the fire before it could reach neighboring properties in the locality. The incident required defensive operations to secure the perimeter surrounding the commercial storage site.
Firefighting mobilization and command
The containment operation mobilized personnel and technical assets from four distinct emergency units within the regional rescue network. Responders arrived from the Drăgășani Fire Detachment, the Râmnicu Vâlcea Fire Detachment, the Măciuca Intervention Guard, and the Bunești Work Point. Firefighters deployed a total of ten specialized vehicles, consisting of six extinguishing trucks with water and foam, two first intervention and command vehicles, and two aerial platforms. Senior leadership supervised the ongoing mission on the ground, where the head of the Operational Center took charge directly while the first deputy of the chief inspector traveled to join the emergency coordination effort. Ground crews established continuous water supplies and foam lines to suppress burning chemical materials from multiple positions around the hall.

Smoke emissions and RO-Alert warnings
Dense smoke rising from the burning paint and chemical solvent warehouse prompted authorities to initiate public safety measures for surrounding residential areas. Emergency responders transmitted two sequential warning notifications using the RO-Alert mobile telephone broadcast system to inform nearby populations of the smoke hazard. The first emergency notification was distributed to residents located within a three-kilometer radius of the incident. A second notification followed, covering an expanded perimeter of five kilometers to alert citizens further away from the blaze.

- Second warning radius
- 5 km
County emergency officials explained the decision to broadcast the warnings to the surrounding population.
Given the large emissions of smoke, to protect the population located near the fire area, 2 warning messages were transmitted through the RO-Alert system.
Containment and casualty assessment
Firefighting forces successfully localized the fire, eliminating the risk of flames propagating to adjacent buildings and structures. The owner of the business arrived at the scene and informed fire officers that no employees were working inside the warehouse when the blaze started. Assessments from the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations and ISU Vâlcea confirmed that no persons were trapped inside the building. Emergency authorities also reported that no casualties or injuries were registered throughout the intervention. Fire crews maintained damping-down operations on site as the mission remained in dynamic development on Saturday evening to fully secure the location and monitor hot spots.
