
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern holds state election with 1.3 million eligible voters
Around 1.3 million eligible voters in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are called to elect a new state parliament, with polling stations open from 8:00 to 18:00.
Around 1.3 million people in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are eligible to cast their ballots for a new state parliament between 8:00 and 18:00 on Sunday. For the first time in a state election in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, 16- and 17-year-olds are permitted to vote, adding roughly 30,000 potential first-time voters to the electorate. In total, 19 political parties are competing with state candidate lists.
Polling published before the vote indicated a close race between the SPD and the AfD. The ZDF-Politbarometer poll released on 18 September placed the SPD at 37% and the AfD at 36%.
