Sporting CP hosts FC Arouca seeking to close gap before Porto-Benfica Clássico

Sporting CP will host FC Arouca at Estádio José Alvalade on Saturday evening in the seventh round of the Portuguese Primeira Liga. The Lisbon club enters the fixture in third place with 14 points, level with Santa Clara and trailing league leaders FC Porto by four points and Benfica by two. With Porto hosting Benfica in the Clássico on Sunday, Sporting will have an opportunity to gain ground on at least one title rival before the upcoming international break. FC Arouca travels to Lisbon holding sixth place in the table with ten points from three victories, one draw, and two defeats. Head coach Vasco Seabra, who earned the Primeira Liga Manager of the Month award for August, stated that his side will maintain its established tactical approach rather than making drastic adjustments for the trip to Alvalade. Seabra dismissed concerns following a difficult opening half-hour in their previous match against Santa Clara, expressing confidence in a disciplined performance against the defending vice-champions.
