Slovak police thwart arson attack on drone factory and detain three suspects

Thwarted arson plot in eastern Slovakia

Slovak authorities confirmed on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, that police intercepted a planned arson attack targeting an unmanned aerial systems factory in the eastern region of the country. The operation prevented any structural damage or physical injuries at the production facility. According to Slovak police statements, approximately 70 employees were working inside the building at the time the attack was scheduled to take place.

Investigators from the organized crime combat unit (UBOK) indicated that the production hall contained equipment and assets valued in the tens of millions of euros. While the authorities verified the industrial focus and regional area of the target, they did not release the commercial name or exact municipal coordinates of the plant. Furthermore, officials did not clarify whether the facility manufactures drones for neighboring Ukraine, which borders eastern Slovakia.

Evidence and forensic findings

During the enforcement operation, law enforcement officers recovered an array of operational equipment and incendiary materials intended for the sabotage attempt. Officers seized a large quantity of an incendiary mixture alongside tools, mobile phones, an action camera, and a hand-drawn layout detailing the target facility.

If the attack had taken place, there would have been a risk of a large-scale fire, which would have endangered the lives and health of people and caused considerable damage.

A preliminary analysis conducted by the police forensic and expert institute determined that the seized incendiary mixture consisted of petrol and polystyrene. This chemical combination creates an adhesive mixture designed to adhere to structural surfaces and sustain combustion across industrial equipment.

Intelligence coordination and arrests

The enforcement action followed coordinated information gathering across domestic and cross-border security apparatuses. Slovakia's civil intelligence agency, the Slovak Information Service (SIS), and Military Intelligence provided lead intelligence that allowed the specialized police unit UBOK to track the suspects.

The synchronized operation resulted in the detention of three foreign nationals across two European jurisdictions. Slovak police detained two of the foreign suspects on Slovak territory, while law enforcement authorities in Germany arrested the third suspect. Police authorities have not publicly disclosed the nationalities of the three individuals.

Motive and legal charges

Investigators formally charged all three suspects with public endangerment committed on commission, a statutory offense covering acts that risk widespread damage to property or imperil life and health. Slovak police stated that the individuals acted under instructions from third parties rather than on their own initiative.

The commissioning party behind the plot remains unidentified in public statements by official bodies. Investigators have not released documentation detailing financial transactions, communication logs, or the origin of the orders. The three suspects remain in custody while legal procedures continue in Slovakia alongside judicial cooperation with German authorities.
