Sky announces 9 October release for 883 series sequel Nord Sud Ovest Est
The eight-episode second season directed by Sydney Sibilia explores the 1993 rise and creative tensions of Max Pezzali and Mauro Repetto across Italy and the United States.
The pressures of second album fame
The Sky Original television series about Italian pop duo 883 will return on 9 October 2026 with its second and final season, titled "Nord Sud Ovest Est - La leggendaria storia degli 883". Following the first season, "Hanno ucciso l'Uomo Ragno", which ranked among the most-watched Sky Original productions, the new eight-episode installment picks up in 1993 immediately after the band's initial breakthrough. Actors Elia Nuzzolo and Matteo Oscar Giuggioli return as Max Pezzali and Mauro Repetto as chart-topping popularity transforms their daily lives into a demanding routine of concerts, interviews, and public attention. By the summer of 1993, the musicians could no longer drink coffee together in public without being surrounded by fans and music industry executives. This commercial shift created personal strain, prompting Pezzali to explore future artistic possibilities while Repetto struggled to find fulfillment in their newfound stardom. The narrative follows the duo from provincial Pavia to Milan and the United States, depicting the path toward Repetto's departure from the group.
Throughout the first season we see that Mauro is the engine and motivator of what happens. In the second, we discover that behind it there is also pain, there is the feeling of not feeling like enough.
Creative direction and fictionalized history
Series creator, co-director, and co-writer Sydney Sibilia developed the project with Sky Studios and Matteo Rovere's production company Groenlandia, a subsidiary of Banijay Group. The production deliberately avoids a strict documentary approach, incorporating stylized segments and references to Italian music history with an ironic tone. Sibilia explained that the project aims to explore friendship and nostalgia rather than deliver an exact chronological record. The creative team and lead actors noted that the anxiety of following up a successful debut season matched the pressures the real musicians faced while recording their second album.
We had the same performance anxiety as our protagonists, so we took it and put it into the series.
Producer Matteo Rovere noted that Pezzali and Repetto granted the screenwriters broad freedom to adapt their personal history without imposing narrative boundaries. The production focuses on reuniting the duo on screen rather than attempting to orchestrate a real-life reunion between the musicians. In addition to returning characters such as Cisco and Silvia, the upcoming episodes introduce new romantic partners and industry figures. The official soundtrack includes a new song composed by Pezzali titled "Le_Ali", which the singer provided to Sibilia during filming.
