Sennheiser unveils Momentum True Wireless 5 earbuds with user-replaceable batteries and Bluetooth 6
Sennheiser has introduced the Momentum True Wireless 5 earbuds featuring user-replaceable batteries, 12-hour standalone playback, and Bluetooth 6.0 support ahead of a September 3 release priced at $299.95.
User-replaceable batteries and repairability
Sennheiser announced the Momentum True Wireless 5 earbuds on August 20, 2026, introducing user-replaceable batteries in both the individual earpieces and the portable charging case. The hardware design allows consumers to replace degraded power cells within minutes using a standard compact screwdriver, eliminating the heavy internal adhesive that traditionally prevented earbud repairs. This architectural choice aligns with the European Union Batteries Regulation, which requires consumer electronics sold within member states to feature user-replaceable batteries starting on February 18, 2027. While earlier repairable models such as the late-2024 Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Eleven required professional workshop service to replace batteries, Sennheiser adopted a self-service structure comparable to the Fairphone Fairbuds.

Acoustic architecture and wireless standards
Audio output is powered by Sennheiser's proprietary 7mm TrueResponse dynamic transducer, engineered to deliver detailed high frequencies alongside bass-driven tuning. Connectivity is anchored by Bluetooth 6.0, enabling 24-bit/96kHz high-resolution audio streaming through the Qualcomm aptX Adaptive codec, with additional compatibility for aptX Lossless and Snapdragon Sound platforms. While Bluetooth 6.0 remains uncommon in consumer audio accessories outside select models like the JBL Tune 530BT and 730BT, compatible source devices already include the iPhone 17, Google Pixel 10 and 11, and the Samsung Galaxy S26. Users can customize frequency responses through an 8-band equalizer within the companion mobile application, while interactive head-tracking accelerometers deliver spatial audio processing and Dolby Atmos support. A dedicated robust mode is also integrated into the firmware to maintain connection stability in environments with severe radio frequency interference.
Active noise cancellation and voice processing
The fifth-generation design includes a revised hybrid adaptive active noise cancellation architecture supported by four ear-tip sizes ranging from extra small to large. A dedicated four-microphone array continuously monitors external ambient sound and adjusts attenuation levels in real time, accompanied by a microperforated acoustic plate that reduces wind turbulence across the microphone ports.
maximize noise cancelling performance while delivering the series' most natural-sounding, real-time transparency mode.
Voice call quality is managed by a hardware suite consisting of eight sensors, six microphones, and two bone-conduction accelerometers. These components feed raw acoustic data into an artificial-intelligence voice extraction algorithm designed to isolate speech and suppress ambient background noise.
Battery performance and case redesign
Listening endurance on the Momentum True Wireless 5 reaches 12 hours on a single charge for the earbuds alone, marking an increase from the 7.5 hours offered by the fourth-generation model. Pairing the earbuds with the redesigned charging case extends total operating time to 40 hours, compared to 30 hours on the previous generation. An eight-minute quick charge over the Qi-compatible case provides one full hour of continuous playback. The physical enclosure features a narrower, more pocket-friendly form factor, and Sennheiser reported that 73% of survey testers preferred the streamlined fit over the previous generation.

Pricing and market availability
Retail availability begins on September 3, 2026, with pre-orders opening immediately following the product reveal. In the United States, the earbuds maintain the previous generation's launch price of $299.95, while European pricing is set at €299.90, with higher price points confirmed for the United Kingdom and Australia. Sennheiser is releasing the model in five metallic colorways: graphite, copper, cream, denim, and lavender. Initial pre-orders on the manufacturer's European storefronts are restricted to the graphite finish, with remaining colors arriving alongside the official retail rollout.
