Princess Eugenie gives birth to a daughter in Lisbon, the first British royal born in Portugal this century

The birth

Princess Eugenie, the younger daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, gave birth to her third child on Monday, 3 August 2026, at 18:20 local time in a Lisbon hospital. Buckingham Palace confirmed the news on Tuesday, stating that the baby girl weighed 2.975 kg and that both mother and child are doing well. The birth took place at the Hospital da Luz, according to Portuguese broadcaster RTP.

Family reaction

The palace statement noted that King Charles III, Queen Camilla, and other members of the royal family were "delighted" by the news. Eugenie shared a photograph of the newborn on Instagram, writing that she and her husband were overwhelmed.

Siblings and succession

The couple already have two sons: August, aged 5, and Ernest, aged 3. The name of the newborn has not yet been made public, with the parents choosing to postpone that decision. With her birth, the daughter of Princess Eugenie now occupies the 15th place in the line of succession to the British throne, pushing lower-ranking members further down the order.

The Portugal connection

Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have maintained a home in Portugal since May 2022, splitting their time between Melides, in the Grândola municipality, and London. The initial move was prompted by Brooksbank's work on the Costa Terra Golf & Ocean Club real estate project. The birth marks the first time this century that a member of the British royal family has been born in Portugal.
