Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez to marry on Madeira this weekend
The couple, together since 2016, will exchange vows at Funchal Cathedral before a reception at the Savoy Palace hotel, according to multiple media reports.
Wedding on the island
Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez are expected to marry on Saturday, 8 August 2026, on the Portuguese island of Madeira. Multiple media reports, citing British tabloid The Sun and local sources, say the ceremony will take place at the Cathedral of Funchal, the island's capital. Weddings there typically begin at 3 p.m. Afterwards, guests will move to the five-star Savoy Palace hotel, where two floors and several bar areas have reportedly been reserved for a private reception.

The choice of Madeira carries deep personal significance for Ronaldo. He was born in Funchal and lived there until he was 11, when he left to join Sporting Lisbon's academy. Today the island hosts a bronze statue of the player, a museum, and the Pestana CR7 hotel, part of his own chain. The airport has borne his name since 2016.
A decade together
Ronaldo, 41, and Rodriguez, 32, met in 2016 in a Madrid Gucci store, where she worked as a sales assistant while he was at Real Madrid. Their relationship quickly became public, and they now raise five children together: Alana Martina (born 2017), twins Eva Maria and Mateo (born via surrogacy the same year), and Bella Esmeralda (born 2022). A son, Angel, died shortly after birth in April 2022.
Cristiano and I met at Gucci. It was a wonderful encounter and love at first sight.
Rodriguez later moved to a Prada store in El Corte Inglés, where Ronaldo would sometimes pick her up after work. She recalled the contrast: "I arrived by bus and left in a Bugatti." Today she has around 77 million Instagram followers and has become one of the most recognisable figures in social media.
The proposal and the ring
Ronaldo proposed in August 2025, presenting Rodriguez with a diamond ring that an expert estimated for Blick at 2 to 5 million Swiss francs. He later described the moment in a podcast interview with Piers Morgan, saying his daughters unexpectedly entered the room and asked if he was going to give their mother the ring. He saw it as a perfect sign and proposed on the spot.
They said: 'Daddy, you're giving Mummy the ring and asking her to marry you.' And I said: 'Wow, that was exactly the right moment.'
Rodriguez shared a photo of the ring on Instagram with the caption: "Yes, I do. In this and in all my lives."
Lavish gifts
According to The Sun, Ronaldo has spent around €313,000 on wedding presents. The list includes a Porsche Taycan worth €90,000, an Audemars Piguet watch at €61,000, Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior handbags costing about €8,000, and designer dresses and tops for roughly €20,000. Ronaldo's net worth is estimated at over $1.2 billion by international publications.

A celebration in his birthplace
The Savoy Palace, a luxury hotel in Funchal, has reportedly informed guests that two entire floors and several bars will be unavailable on Friday and Saturday. Earlier speculation had pointed to the Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra as a possible venue, but that site remained open to the public on the relevant dates. The couple is said to want a relatively intimate celebration, though several celebrities and close friends are expected to attend what is shaping up to be one of the most followed celebrity weddings of the year.
