PSPV opens 2027 regional campaign in Alicante as Diana Morant targets Les Corts majority

Socialist offensive in Alicante

The PSPV-PSOE opened its Political Conference at the University of Alicante on 19 September 2026 under the slogan "Recuperar lo que importa". Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities Diana Morant, who leads the regional party and stands as its candidate for regional president, outlined an eight-month roadmap leading into the May 2027 regional elections. The gathering brought together national and regional figures, including PSOE Secretary of Organization Rebeca Torró, Minister Arcadi España, and mayoral nominees Pilar Bernabé for Valencia, Trini Amorós for Alicante, and Rafa Simó for Castelló. The leadership presented internal survey data indicating a technical tie between the left and right parliamentary blocs, even as party projections showed a contraction in Socialist voting share across Valencia, Alicante, and Castelló.

Legislative targets and candidate rivalry

Morant structured her address around winning a working majority in Les Corts Valencianes, specifically pointing to the 50th, 51st, 52nd, and 53rd seats as mandates for public housing and healthcare access. She criticized regional President Juanfran Pérez Llorca, remarking that national PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo had delayed his formal confirmation as the conservative gubernatorial candidate for 2027. Morant noted that Pérez Llorca voted against a proposed autonomous financing model that would provide 3,669 million euros per year to the Valencian Community. She also addressed recent online remarks by Valencia Provincial Council President Vicent Mompó, urging women never to accept derogatory dismissal from political opponents.

Speaking to delegates at the University of Alicante, Morant framed the conference as the start of an eight-month governing transition.

Reversing the 2023 conservative pact

PSOE Secretary of Organization Rebeca Torró called on the party base to mobilize and repeal the legislative program enacted by the PP and Vox after the 2023 elections. Torró recalled her previous role as PSPV parliamentary spokesperson, arguing that the conservative governing agreement compromised public healthcare, environmental measures, and regional language policies established under former President Ximo Puig. Both Morant and Torró addressed representatives of associations representing victims of the 29 October 2024 DANA floods, promising open access to the regional palace and continued cooperation with the Catarroja court investigation into the disaster response.

Torró urged the party to maintain organizational momentum ahead of the municipal and regional contests.

In 2027, Valencians are going to turn out to vote en masse to clean up the institutions and recover what matters.

Popular Party counter-offensive

Conservative officials staged counter-events and issued responses criticizing the Socialist gathering. Les Corts PP spokesperson Nando Pastor described the Alicante conference as a provocation, asserting that central government allocations under Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez left Alicante 52nd out of 52 Spanish provinces in state infrastructure investment, with unaddressed deficits in commuter rail, road upgrades, and water transfers. In Valencia, PPCV General Secretary Carlos Gil and PP national economy deputy secretary Alberto Nadal held working sessions with business leaders, defending the regional administration's record. Gil pointed to tax reforms introduced in 2024, including personal income tax reductions and the abolition of inheritance and gift taxes, while accusing the PSPV of focusing on internal party positioning.
