Poland faces sharp weather shift as high-pressure warmth yields to 8°C cold front
High-pressure system Arno will maintain temperatures up to 25 degrees Celsius through Friday before Atlantic fronts and arctic air lower daytime highs to 8 degrees Celsius next week.
High-pressure system Arno maintains sunny conditions
Poland is experiencing warm and sunny autumn weather driven by high-pressure system Arno, positioned east of the country. The anticyclone blocks colder, moist Atlantic air masses from entering central Europe. Across southern and western Poland, daytime temperatures on Thursday climb past 20 degrees Celsius, with highs reaching 25 degrees Celsius in southern Lubusz Voivodeship. Other areas, including Podlasie, Warmia, Mazury, Kuyavia, and Zakopane, record afternoon temperatures between 17 and 19 degrees Celsius without precipitation. Morning fogs in eastern districts and Carpathian valleys briefly lowered visibility to 500 metres before clearing under light to moderate winds.
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management described the stable weather in its forecast.
Another pleasant autumn day is expected.
Cold nights precede weekend showers
Clear skies will cause sharp overnight cooling. Temperatures during the night from Thursday into Friday will fall to 4 degrees Celsius in Zakopane, 5 to 8 degrees Celsius in central and eastern Poland, and 12 degrees Celsius in Western Pomerania, with localized fog near Suwałki. Friday will bring another warm day, with highs between 19 degrees Celsius on border areas and 23 degrees Celsius in Silesia and Lesser Poland. Overnights across the period will see readings between 3 and 10 degrees Celsius, with localized ground frost.
- Highs reach 25°C in southern Lubusz under high-pressure system Arno
- Passing showers reach Central Pomerania and Gorzów Wielkopolski with highs up to 22°C
- Rainfall spreads to Pomerania, Warmia, Mazury, and central areas as highs reach 22°C
- Atlantic fronts bring rain and lower daytime highs to 13°C in Suwałki
- Rainfall covers most regions before polar and arctic air masses drop highs to 8–11°C
The weather shifts gradually over the weekend. Saturday brings passing showers to Central Pomerania and near Gorzów Wielkopolski, while remaining regions stay sunny with highs between 17 degrees Celsius in Koszalin, Suwałki, and Zakopane and 22 degrees Celsius in Silesia. On Sunday, rain expands across Łódź Voivodeship, southern Lubusz, Pomerania, Warmia, Mazury, and Lublin. Temperatures on Sunday remain mild, reaching 16 degrees Celsius in Podlasie and 22 degrees Celsius in Silesia, Subcarpathia, and Lesser Poland.
Frontal systems bring rainfall and temperature drop
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management forecasts a marked transition starting on Monday, 5 October. As high-pressure blocking weakens, Atlantic fronts will advance, bringing widespread precipitation to most regions except the south-eastern border. Daytime temperatures on Monday will drop to 13 degrees Celsius in Suwałki and 15 degrees Celsius in central Poland, while Subcarpathia reaches 21 degrees Celsius ahead of the boundary.
- Suwałki region
- 13 °C
- Central Poland
- 15 °C
- Subcarpathia
- 21 °C
On Tuesday, rain moves toward south-eastern Poland, leaving dry conditions across Western Pomerania, northern Lubusz, Masovia, and Lower Silesia, with highs between 14 degrees Celsius in Suwałki and 19 degrees Celsius in Silesia. On Wednesday, rain covers most regions except Silesia, Lesser Poland, and Subcarpathia, with highs between 14 degrees Celsius in Zakopane and 20 degrees Celsius elsewhere. In the second half of next week, polar and arctic air will lower daytime highs to between 8 and 11 degrees Celsius, with overnight lows falling below 5 degrees Celsius.
