Committee vote

The Sejm's administration and internal affairs committee gave a negative opinion on a no-confidence motion against Interior and Administration Minister Marcin Kierwiński on Thursday, 5 November 2026. Law and Justice (PiS) deputies filed the motion. Twenty-one deputies voted for the negative opinion, 12 voted against, and nobody abstained.

The motion argued that Kierwiński supervises the institutions responsible for internal security poorly. Deputies pointed to problems with the public warning system, the involvement of police in the conflict around the Constitutional Tribunal, staff shortages at the Central Cybercrime Bureau, insufficient protection of critical infrastructure, and the response to acts of sabotage. They also held him politically responsible for the affair surrounding the Southern Hospital.

PiS's case against the minister

Paweł Hreniak, the PiS deputy who represented the motion's authors at the sitting, said the main charge was clear. He argued that the ministry had become a tool against the opposition, free media, independent institutions and associations. He tied this to the threat from Russia and to what he called a hybrid war, saying the minister's conduct eroded citizens' trust in the services.

“Under the leadership of Minister Kierwiński, the Interior and Administration Ministry has unfortunately become a tool of political struggle.”

Paweł Hreniak, piS deputy

“You are doing all this during a hybrid war. Minister Kierwiński, through his actions, undermines citizens' trust in the services at such a difficult moment for our homeland.”

Paweł Hreniak, piS deputy

Kierwiński's response

Kierwiński said this was the third motion of its kind. He noted that the Sejm rejected earlier motions in 2024 and in June 2026. He said he took the new motion as recognition of his hard work in clearing up what he described as the mess left in the ministry by his predecessors and by the motion's authors over many years.

On the charge concerning police near the Constitutional Tribunal, he said officers were there to defend observance of the law, the tribunal building and the protesters gathered in front of it. He then turned the accusation back on the PiS side.

“Why did you so recently shout 'a wall behind the Polish uniform', and now you are at the vanguard of an attack on Polish police officers?”

Marcin Kierwiński, minister of Interior and Administration

Earlier motions

The current motion follows earlier PiS attempts to remove the minister. In June 2026 the Sejm rejected a similar initiative, in which PiS deputies had accused Kierwiński of insufficient action in crisis situations and a decline in trust in state institutions. Thursday's committee sitting took up the third motion, and the committee's negative opinion now stands on record.
