In brief
Mariusz Błaszczak announced on Thursday, 22 October 2026 that the PiS club had filed a motion against Marcin Kierwiński with the Sejm speaker, saying it had the required signatures.
The Rozwój Plus motion, filed on Tuesday, 20 October, was found on Wednesday, 21 October to lack the signatures needed for processing, with at least 69 MPs required and the club counting 40 deputies.
In June the Sejm rejected a PiS no-confidence motion against Kierwiński, whose authors cited insufficient crisis response and falling trust in state institutions.
PiS and Rozwój Plus MPs traded public accusations on X, with Łukasz Schreiber claiming his group's motion already had 71 signatures in the Sejm.

A second motion after a defective filing
The Law and Justice (PiS) parliamentary club has filed a motion with the Sejm speaker seeking a no-confidence vote against Interior and Administration Minister Marcin Kierwiński, club chair Mariusz Błaszczak said on Thursday, 22 October. The step followed a motion filed by the Rozwój Plus group, associated with Mateusz Morawiecki, on Tuesday, 20 October, which had formal defects. Under the constitution, a motion to remove a minister must be submitted by at least 69 MPs, while the Rozwój Plus club counts 40 deputies.
Błaszczak said PiS had gathered the required number of signatures and prepared new documents after the Rozwój Plus filing was not accepted. He also noted that several Rozwój Plus MPs had added their signatures to the PiS motion. Błaszczak framed the episode in a post on X and at a press conference.
What happened to the Rozwój Plus filing
The Rozwój Plus motion carried signatures from politicians of Konfederacja and PiS, but it was found the following day, Wednesday, 21 October, not to have enough signatures to be processed. Janusz Cieszyński showed on social media that the motion had been submitted. Rafał Bochenek of PiS wrote on X that the Rozwój Plus motion did not meet formal requirements, including the required number of signatures. Łukasz Schreiber of Rozwój Plus replied that his group's motion was already in the Sejm with 71 signatures, and told PiS it had reacted late.
Michał Wójcik, a PiS MP, wrote on X on Wednesday that a missing signature requirement would amount to a fiasco in parliamentary practice. At the press conference Błaszczak said the Morawiecki group had not followed the Sejm rules when filing its motion.
“This time there was no shortage of signatures!”
“This is a sign of a lack of competence, in our assessment.”
Earlier attacks on Kierwiński
Paweł Jabłoński of Rozwój Plus had already called for a no-confidence vote against Kierwiński in the Sejm during the current sitting. He pointed to police actions at a zoo in Łączna, police conduct ahead of the Constitutional Tribunal and the handling of aid for flood victims as reasons to hold the minister responsible. On the same Tuesday, the right also failed to carry a no-confidence vote against Finance Minister Andrzej Domański.
In June the Sejm rejected a PiS no-confidence motion against Kierwiński. The motion's authors had accused him of insufficient action in crisis situations and of a decline in trust in state institutions.
Timing of the vote
The sources do not give a date for a Sejm vote on the new PiS motion, nor do they say whether the Rozwój Plus motion will be refiled. The sequence of filings is set out in the timeline above, and the signature count in the bar chart compares the figure a motion needs with the size of the Rozwój Plus club.
- Minimum MPs needed to file a motion
- 69 MPs
- Rozwój Plus club members
- 40 MPs
