Marc Fitoussi releases comedy Ni vue, ni connue starring Isabelle Huppert and Sandrine Kiberlain
Director Marc Fitoussi's eighth feature film opens in French cinemas on 7 October 2026, pairing Isabelle Huppert as an overlooked movie extra alongside Sandrine Kiberlain playing herself.
Premise and character dynamics
Marc Fitoussi releases his eighth feature film, Ni vue, ni connue, in French movie theatres on Wednesday, 7 October 2026. The comedy casts Isabelle Huppert against type as Corinne Maclou, an aspiring actor working as an uncredited background extra across various movie sets. Maclou spends her days traversing film productions, handing out copies of her CV to technicians and directors in the hope of securing a credited speaking part. Sandrine Kiberlain stars opposite Huppert, appearing under her own name as a celebrated, demanding screen actress perched at the top of the industry hierarchy. The narrative follows Maclou as she attempts to befriend Kiberlain on a film set, seeking to turn their acquaintance into an entry point into the mainstream film community.
Behind the scenes of film extras
The production examines the routine indignities, low remuneration, and logistical difficulties experienced by background actors on French movie sets. Maclou contends with substandard catering limited to packaged madeleines, while paying out of pocket for her own car petrol and motorway tolls to reach filming locations. Her domestic life reflects these frustrations, including questions from her father about whether audiences will ever hear her speak or see her without blinking. Fitoussi chose to create the fictional character of Maclou for Huppert because the actress experienced few career struggles in her own life, having transitioned rapidly to major roles after minimal background work at the Comédie-Française during her studies at the Conservatoire. Fitoussi detailed his intention to contrast the two performers.
I had a need to have full fun with her character of Corinne Maclou facing a Sandrine Kiberlain who plays, under her own name, an actress with a capital A, perched on her ivory tower.
Fitoussi's ongoing focus on unrecognised performers
Ni vue, ni connue continues a long-standing focus on unrecognised performing artists across Fitoussi's directorial career. Fitoussi previously examined background actors in a 2009 documentary, before releasing his debut feature film, La vie d'artiste, in 2010. That debut project featured Kiberlain as a voice dubbing actress campaigning for professional recognition and visibility. The new film represents the fourth time Fitoussi has directed both Huppert and Kiberlain, following his work on feature projects such as Pauline détective, Maman a tort, and Les Cyclades. Fitoussi observed that female actors often demonstrate distinct artistic bravery on set.
I find that actresses in general have a lot of self-deprecation and that they even take much more risks than actors.

Theatrical release and industry satire
The comedy draws stylistic inspiration from Fitoussi's work on the television series Dix pour cent, where he directed three episodes, including an installment in which Huppert performed a self-parody as an exacting movie star. In Ni vue, ni connue, Kiberlain depicts a capricious and famous screen figure, while Huppert portrays an overlooked performer who remains an uncredited silhouette passing through the background of scenes. The film uses the dynamic between the two characters to satirize the divide between high-profile talent and background extras in contemporary French cinema. The title enters wide theatrical distribution across France on 7 October 2026.
