51-year-old uncle stabs nephew to death in Chios fish market; arrested same day
A 51-year-old man was arrested on Thursday after fatally stabbing his 31-year-old nephew during an argument in the fish market area of Chios, Greece. The victim died in hospital shortly before noon despite emergency surgery.
The stabbing
During the night of Wednesday 10 to Thursday 11 June 2026, a 51-year-old man and his 31-year-old nephew, both of Roma descent, argued in an open space near the fish market (ιχθυόσκαλα) in Chios town. The reason for the dispute remains unknown. The older man used a sharp object and physical force to stab the younger man in the abdomen.
Medical efforts and death
The victim was rushed to Chios General Hospital, where he underwent surgery (according to some reports, two operations), but his wounds were too severe. He succumbed to his injuries shortly before noon on Thursday, 11 June 2026.
Arrest and charges
Police immediately launched an investigation. Officers from the Chios Police Department, supported by the Chios Sub-Directorate for Crime Detection and Investigation, arrested the 51-year-old on the same day, Thursday.
Yesterday (11-06-2026) in Chios, after immediate mobilisation of police officers from the Chios Police Department, with the assistance of the Chios Sub-Directorate for Crime Detection and Investigation, a 51-year-old national was arrested, against whom a criminal case file was opened for intentional homicide and violation of weapons legislation.
Seized evidence
During searches, police found and confiscated a knife with a blade length of 16.5 centimetres. The suspect remains in custody at the Chios Police Directorate, while the preliminary investigation continues under the Chios Sub-Directorate for Crime Detection and Investigation.
