The German forward maintained that the gesture was intended to indicate that the contest had been decided by the strike rather than to threaten supporters.

It was in the emotion. I would not say that I regret it, but that is not the message I wanted to send. It was misunderstood. What I wanted to say is "what a goal, it is finished".
