The concert was Dion's first full-length live appearance since March 8, 2020, following years of treatment for stiff person syndrome. Dion announced her diagnosis in 2022, revealing a progressive neurological condition that affects one to two people per million and triggers severe muscle spasms. The condition seized the singer's throat and vocal cords, prompting her to cancel her remaining world tour dates in 2023. Dion underwent physical therapy and reconstructed her vocal technique, sharing her medical routines in the documentary "I Am: Celine Dion." Her only public singing appearance between March 2020 and Saturday was a four-minute performance from the Eiffel Tower during the Paris Olympic opening ceremony in July 2024.

Vocal execution and residency structure

Dion navigated a demanding repertoire that blended English pop ballads with cornerstone French releases, including "The Power of Love," "Because You Loved Me," "Pour que tu m'aimes encore," "I'm Alive," and "My Heart Will Go On." During the encore performance of "All By Myself," Dion sustained the climactic high F note without vocal strain, prompting immediate applause from the audience and a relieved glance toward her musical director. Schoolteacher Elodie Marchand described the emotional release inside the arena when the note landed.

The residency generated high commercial interest across Europe when ticket sales opened in April 2026, drawing nine million registrations for seats priced between 89.50 and 298.50 euros. In the weeks leading up to the opening night, crowds gathered daily outside Dion's hotel in central Paris to greet the singer as she traveled to rehearsals. Nick Rees-Roberts, a professor of media, culture, and communication at Sorbonne Nouvelle University, noted that Dion's Paris engagement functions as a destination experience combining celebrity fandom with tourism. Dion is scheduled to return to the Plenitude Arena stage on Wednesday for the second show of the run.
