Police authorities in the northern Greek regional unit of Pella arrested a 26-year-old man following a violent altercation in the town of Giannitsa during the early hours of Saturday morning. The confrontation originated inside a local nightlife establishment, where both men were spending time with separate groups of acquaintances. According to police reports, an initial verbal dispute broke out between the two individuals over a trivial matter. Local reporting from regional outlets stated that tension initially flared between the 26-year-old and the companion of the 27-year-old patron before both parties departed the venue.

Escalation and head injuries outside the venue

The confrontation moved outdoors when the paths of the two individuals crossed again on the street outside the entertainment center. During the altercation, the 27-year-old was accompanied by a young woman while the 26-year-old was accompanied by a friend. The encounter turned physical when the 26-year-old struck the 27-year-old with a punch. The impact caused the victim to lose consciousness instantly and fall heavily onto the asphalt, resulting in serious craniocerebral trauma.

Emergency medical personnel initially transported the unconscious man to the General Hospital of Giannitsa. Following an initial assessment of the brain injuries, attending physicians decided that the severity of his condition necessitated an immediate transfer to Papageorgiou Hospital in Thessaloniki for specialized treatment.

Hospitalization and family testimony

The 27-year-old remains hospitalized in serious condition under constant medical evaluation at Papageorgiou Hospital. In an interview with NewsIT, the father of the injured man outlined the medical situation and firmly denied earlier accounts alleging that the fight originated over his son's girlfriend.

My son is in the hospital. The first 48 hours must pass for his condition to stabilize. He did not know my son as far as I know. From the brawl he fell awkwardly on the road and hit his head. What has been heard about them arguing over my son's girlfriend is not true. I spoke with the girl and those things are not true.

The victim's father stated that his son was struck without warning as he was walking away from the nightclub.

They came out of the bar where they were having fun and had a verbal dispute for a reason we do not know. A few meters away from the bar, and while my son was walking, the other one came and hit him from behind. And from the punch he fell and hit his head. We do not know why everything happened.

Felony charges and judicial investigation

Law enforcement officers located and arrested the 26-year-old suspect shortly after the incident. Regional prosecutors filed felony charges against the detained man in connection with the severe bodily harm inflicted on the victim. The suspect was subsequently referred to the competent investigative magistrate to present his formal plea.
