Lech Poznań beats Radomiak Radom 5:1 with braces from Walemark and Rodriguez

Early drama in torrential rain

Lech Poznań responded to an opening-minute concession to defeat Radomiak Radom 5:1 in the final fixture of Ekstraklasa round nine on Sunday evening. A heavy downpour passed over the stadium just before kickoff, contributing to an eventful start. The visitors took the lead after sixteen seconds when Guilherme Luiz intercepted the ball outside the penalty area following a pass from Mateusz Lis to Radosław Murawski, who was dispossessed under pressure from Romario Baro. Lech equalised in the third minute after Joel Pereira found Pablo Rodriguez, who beat his marker in midfield and scored with a low effort deflected by Kryspin Szcześniak. Patrik Walemark gave the hosts the lead in the ninth minute, heading in the rebound after Filip Majchrowicz parried a strike from Filip Jagiełło that had been set up by Mikael Ishak.

Dominant first half and attacking control

Lech continued to generate chances throughout the first half, maintaining substantial possession despite defensive interventions from the visitors. Mikael Ishak was denied twice in one-on-one situations by Majchrowicz, while Szcześniak cleared another Walemark attempt off the goal line in the twentieth minute. Lech added a third goal in the 41st minute when Walemark played a through ball to Ishak, who crossed for Allahyar Sayyadmanesh to score from close range. We could not have dreamed of a better start, we quickly took the lead, and then we conceded two goals quite easily. The mistakes we made allowed Lech to build momentum. We know well that in such a situation they will take advantage of it. We accept this defeat, we deserved it.

Second-half braces seal the victory

Radomiak made halftime substitutions by introducing Rafał Wolski and Ibrahima Camara, but Lech sustained their offensive pressure into the second period. In the 51st minute, Wojciech Mońka located Walemark, who advanced into the penalty area and beat Majchrowicz to secure his second goal of the match. Rodriguez matched the feat in the 67th minute with another precise strike, extending the lead to 5:1. Lech managed the tempo for the remainder of the contest, securing three points without conceding further clear chances. Danish head coach Niels Frederiksen acknowledged areas for refinement despite the comprehensive scoreline.

I am not extremely pleased with our performance, it was not perfect, because we could have pushed for more goals. We were a bit careless, so it was not our highest level, but it was more than we needed to claim victory.

League standings and recovery from European defeat

The result halted a two-game losing run for Lech, who had previously dropped matches to Górnik Zabrze by 1:2 and English side Crystal Palace by 0:4 in the Europa League. Prior to those setbacks, the club had built a nine-game unbeaten run across competitions. With this victory, Lech advance to 19 points from eight matches, placing third in the Ekstraklasa standings. The team is tied on points with second-place Legia Warsaw, who have played nine games, and trails table-topping Górnik Zabrze by three points. Radomiak remain on eight points heading into the upcoming international break.
