The Jupiter 6 operation

Romanian police and prosecutors launched the Jupiter 6 operation on Monday, 2 November, and on Tuesday, 3 November, a second wave of 67 operational actions was under way, executing 304 home search warrants in Bucharest and several other counties. The operation is coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ) together with the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police. The offences under investigation include tax evasion, smuggling, money laundering, embezzlement, fraud, blackmail, bribery, illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, poaching, illegal logging and tree theft. Prosecutors described the day's activity in these words:

“In the course of today, 3 November 2026, 67 operational actions are being carried out, with 304 home search warrants being executed.”

Damages and what comes next

In its statement, the prosecutors' office put the damages in these terms:

“Damages quantified so far exceed 46,972,256 lei and 289,417.50 US dollars, and other damages are still to be established during the investigations.”

Persons summoned under warrants will be questioned, and investigators are working to identify assets and funds obtained through the offences. Police said the goal is to freeze or seize those assets to recover the losses and cover the harm caused. Police also said they would release information that can be made public as the day goes on.

The separate DIICOT truck-theft case

On 3 November, police from the Pitești organised crime brigade and DIICOT prosecutors carried out 65 searches in Argeș, Dâmbovița, Ilfov, Dolj, Prahova, Bihor and Bucharest. Of these, 14 were executed under European investigation orders issued by Belgian judicial authorities. The investigation covers forming an organised criminal group, fraud with particularly grave consequences, computer fraud and money laundering. Prosecutors said the group was set up in March 2024 by five people, and about 30 more later joined.

Using companies they ran or controlled, the members won domestic and international freight contracts for high-value goods that could be sold quickly on the black market. Once the cargo was loaded, the planned route was abandoned and the goods were taken, using false transport documents, forged identity cards and cloned number plates. Vehicles running ahead of the trucks were used to avoid road checks.

To explain the disappearances, drivers reported that cargo had been stolen on the road, swapped loaded trailers for identical empty ones by moving the plates, or claimed technical breakdowns and left the trailer unattended while they went to a repair shop.
