Iva Jovic and Peyton Stearns advance to Guadalajara Open tennis final
Defending champion Iva Jovic defeated Cristina Bucsa in straight sets on Friday to secure a spot in the Guadalajara Open final against Peyton Stearns.
Guadalajara Open semifinals
Second-seeded Iva Jovic advanced to the Guadalajara Open final after a 6-4, 6-1 victory over sixth-seeded Cristina Bucsa of Spain. The 18-year-old Los Angeles native, who earned her sole WTA Tour title at this event last year, saved 11 of the 12 break points she faced and converted four of her eight break opportunities.
Jovic will face Peyton Stearns, who defeated eighth-seeded Liudmila Samsonova of Russia 7-6 (7), 6-2. Stearns, a 24-year-old from Cincinnati pursuing her third career tournament title, converted her sixth set point to take the opening set before securing an early break in the second.
SP Open quarterfinals
At the SP Open in Sao Paulo, second-seeded Paula Badosa defeated Mary Stoiana 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. Badosa won 78% of her first-serve points compared to 36% for Stoiana, setting up a semifinal match against Argentina's Nadia Podoroska, who defeated Suzan Lamens 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-3.
In the other semifinal bracket in Sao Paulo, fourth-seeded Anna Blinkova will play seventh-seeded Kaitlin Quevedo. Quevedo beat Teodora Kostovic 6-3, 6-4, while Blinkova eliminated eighth-seeded Alina Charaeva 6-4, 7-5.
