Joventut Badalona beats Barcelona to win 2026 Spanish Supercup as Nicolas Laprovittola scores 31 points

Host club breaks tournament precedent

Asisa Joventut defeated FC Barcelona in the final of the 2026 Supercopa Endesa at the Olimpic de Badalona on 20 September 2026. The result secured the club their third Supercopa title in team history, following their inaugural tournament victories in 1985 and 1986. Joventut also became the first host team in the history of the competition to win the trophy on home ground, a milestone previously missed by Gran Canaria when they finished as runners-up in 2017. The victory marked the first national silverware for the Badalona side since their 2008 Copa del Rey win in Vitoria. Barcelona ended the tournament extending their run without a trophy to three consecutive seasons under head coach Aleksander Sekulic.

Laprovittola sets scoring benchmark

Guard Nicolas Laprovittola led the scoring for Joventut against his former club, finishing the final with 31 points and 7 assists. The Argentine guard, who previously spent five seasons at Barcelona, registered 18 points before halftime and converted 8 three-pointers. Across the weekend tournament, Laprovittola scored 58 total points, having recorded 27 points and 10 assists in the semifinal against Baskonia. This total surpassed the previous competition record of 40 points, established by Dzanan Musa of Real Madrid in 2022. Joventut teammate Emir Sulejmanovic credited the playmaking of the backcourt rotation for creating scoring space.

First-half offensive surge

Point guard Ricky Rubio opened the match by scoring Joventut's first 5 points, matched by 5 points from Joel Parra across Barcelona's first 7 points. Laprovittola entered off the bench and added 12 points in the first quarter on four three-pointers, establishing a 32-23 Joventut lead. Barcelona attempted to alter defensive matchups through Umoja Gibson, but the guard collected 5 fouls by the start of the third quarter. Rubio concluded the game with 10 points and 8 assists to complement Laprovittola's perimeter production. Joventut held a 6-point advantage at halftime, prompting head coach Dani Miret to address defensive execution during the interval.

Supercopa title rotation continues

The result settled a historical rematch between the two Catalan sides, arriving 39 years after Barcelona defeated Joventut 91-88 in the 1987 Supercopa final in Vigo. The win confirmed a sequence of four different champions across four consecutive editions of the tournament. Real Madrid won in 2023, Unicaja in 2024, Valencia Basket in 2025, and Joventut in 2026. A comparable four-year sequence of champion turnover had not occurred in the tournament since the 2014–2017 period.
