US-Iran draft deal would lift sanctions, open Hormuz; Germany sees progress, Tehran cautious
A framework agreement leaked to Iranian media would end US sanctions against Tehran, withdraw American forces from the region, and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, according to a report by the Mehr news agency. German government circles see a chance for a deal, but Iran’s foreign minister cautioned that the declaration of intent remains unsigned.
Draft details
The Iranian news agency Mehr reported on a draft framework deal that foresees an end to US sanctions, the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, the withdrawal of American forces from the region, and a halt to the US naval blockade of Iranian ports. Sanctions on Iran’s oil industry would be lifted and frozen Iranian assets released. Final negotiations would focus on Tehran’s nuclear programme and economic matters, while the Iranian missile programme is excluded. The draft must still be finalised by the relevant government bodies. Washington has not yet commented.

German diplomatic readout
German government circles see a real chance for a US-Iran understanding. “The last days have brought progress,” an insider said, adding that President Trump can continue to count on German support. The G7 leaders, who will gather in Evian on Monday, are united on the essential points: Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons and freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz must be restored.
The last days have brought progress. This will only be achieved at the negotiating table.
Tehran plays down reports
Pakistan’s government claimed an agreement between the United States and Iran has already been reached. However, Iran’s foreign minister stated that a declaration of intent with Washington had not yet been signed and that changes were still possible. No final decision has been made, according to statements from both Tehran and Washington.
Egypt urges swift action
Egypt’s foreign ministry late on Thursday appealed to both sides not to let the opportunity slip.
We hope that the existing opportunity is used to reach an agreement on the various open questions and to prepare the climate for an end to the war and the beginning of a new phase of regional stability.
Meanwhile in Gaza
While diplomatic efforts intensified, Israeli forces reportedly carried out large-scale strikes in the Gaza Strip overnight Friday, targeting Hamas fighters and infrastructure, according to Israeli accounts. Palestinian reports said civilians were injured.
