Rumored iPhone Air 2 would be 5.2mm thick with a bigger battery, due early 2027
Rumors point to a 5.2mm frame, a 3,500mAh battery and a second 48MP camera for the iPhone Air 2. Apple has not announced the device, and the launch is expected in early 2027.
A thinner body on the rumor mill
Korean blogger yeux1122, posting on the Naver blog, claims the iPhone Air 2 will measure about 5.2mm thick, 0.4mm less than the original iPhone Air. MacRumors notes that Apple lists the original at 5.6mm, which would put the successor at about 5.2mm and match the unfolded iPhone Duo. Spider's Web points out that the figure leaves out the raised camera island on the rear panel, which manufacturers usually exclude when they list dimensions and measure the thinnest point instead. Spider's Web also argues that 5.2mm would bring Apple closer to 4mm, a level that only foldables such as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, at 4.2mm, have reached. Gizmodo gives the iPhone 18 Pro a thickness of 8.75mm for comparison.

Battery and processor
The original iPhone Air carries a 3,149mAh battery, which Spider's Web says lasts one day. The yeux1122 leak says battery life will improve, and it hints at a high-density battery similar to the one reportedly used in the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. GSM Arena expects a capacity increase that is not a huge one. A second leak, which Gizmodo says came soon after the first, puts the capacity at 3,500mAh, an 11% increase over the current model. No source gives battery life in hours or percentages. Jon Prosser says the A20 Pro chip will improve efficiency, leading to battery life that is "nothing dramatic, but definitely noticeable."

Cameras, speaker and retained design
Jon Prosser's video from July claimed the iPhone Air 2 would carry a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera alongside a 48-megapixel regular lens, and that Apple will redesign the Face ID camera to fit the extra lens. The first iPhone Air had only one rear camera, which GSM Arena lists among the most common complaints about the model, along with battery life. Spider's Web reports that the first model has a single speaker and that the second generation has room for a second one. Prosser also expects the titanium midframe to carry over, with a lavender color replacing Sky Blue. GSM Arena reports that the new model should keep the same screen, RAM and selfie camera as its predecessor.
Price and timing
Gizmodo calls price the big open question and asks whether the Air 2 will launch at a higher $100 MSRP, as most other iPhones now do, adding that this "seems very much within the realm of possibility." The timing estimates differ slightly. MacRumors and Gizmodo expect a launch early next year, while GSM Arena says next spring, alongside the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e. Gizmodo notes that the base iPhone 18 was missing from this year's Apple Event and expects the Air 2 to arrive with it, possibly alongside a budget iPhone 18e. Notícias ao Minuto reports that Apple has not officially said anything about a second-generation iPhone Air, so every detail in these reports remains a rumor that could change before any announcement.
