EMS Chief Robert Luckritz stated at a news conference that the man remained in stable but serious condition after receiving a gunshot wound to the torso. Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis confirmed that municipal police officers were not involved in the shooting and made no arrests at the scene, with yellow police tape and state police vehicles cordoning off the surrounding neighbourhood.

City officials demand independent inquiry

Prior to 2026, an ICE officer shot and killed 23-year-old American citizen Ruben Ray Martinez in South Padre Island, Texas. In January 2026, an enforcement action designated as the Metro Surge operation in Minneapolis led to the deaths of two American citizens: nurse Alex Pretti and Renée Good, a mother of three children. Since January 2025, federal immigration agents have shot more than 20 people nationwide, resulting in six deaths, including three United States citizens.
