Grindeanu reveals private messages from Bolojan: interim premier sent 11 legislative proposals via phone, refuses official dialogue

Sorin Grindeanu, president of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), revealed on 27 July 2026 that interim prime minister Ilie Bolojan had sent him about 10 or 11 legislative proposals directly via private phone messages, while avoiding the official political committee proposed by the PSD. Grindeanu said his secretariat at the Chamber of Deputies was also flooded that morning by people sent by ministers to add further projects to the agenda.

I have messages on my phone from prime minister Ilie Bolojan in which he sends me about 10 or 11 legislative proposals to pass through Parliament; if they really want the good of the Romanians, why didn't they come to the committee we proposed?

Grindeanu stated he is ready to convene a new extraordinary session if requested, for the benefit of Romanians, not for personal pride. He said such a session could discuss the Biodiversity Strategy, but the Government must first withdraw it from publication and submit it officially to Parliament, as strategies can only be approved by Government Decision under a full-power cabinet, not a dismissed one. He also highlighted a major issue with defense acquisitions and army equipment, noting that an advance payment must be made, but that it is the Government's role, not Parliament's; the project is on the agenda for debate in two days. Grindeanu warned he would not allow the law to be broken, regardless of the goal.

Meanwhile, Grindeanu reported that PSD-backed measures had advanced: a proposal to reduce and transform the fuel excise into a variable one, supported in committee by Bogdan Ivan, passed the Finance Committee and was likely adopted by the Senate plenary; a PSD proposal extending cadastre deadlines until the end of October was also adopted.
